The WRX is fassssst

I rode in my buddy's WRX today. That car pulls hard over 3000 rpm. It only has 227 hp verses my 222 but it sure seemed like more. Maybe the AWD is making the difference. Now I'm thinking of getting a y-pipe and pulley.

Weight difference and the turbo help move that car.

the wrx is really fast
i drove my friend's the other day and it made me $hit in my pants
the car is kinda slow on the first 4k rpm's
but they once the turbo fully kicks in, it shoots up to redline in no time, once that car is in the turbo range.... forget it
it made me feel like my 5sp max is slow
now i ll have to get all the mods to make my car faster than his

one of the advantage of owning a turbo charged car is that it's just soooo much easier to generate more hps than from a NA car.

i mean, with a boost control and a catback exhaust, a WRX can shave off 1-2 seconds off the 1/4mile times....

Can the human brain handle those kind of G forces?

Seriously, the car was fast but it rode like ****. It was noisy and rough. You always heard the engine even at low cruising speeds. Our Max's are more well balanced machines.

the WRX is not fasssst

I test drove one and thought it was about as quick as a stock max...
but its got ALOT of lag for a factory turbo car...
turbo cars always *feel* faster than they are...
i see the WRX running 15's all nite long at the track...
no doubt they can be made fast much easier...
but i've heard of a few blowing up rather easily...

According to Motor Trend, the 2002 WRX can do 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds. No stock Max can do that.

Just a few clips ...... But I'll still take a Lancer EVO over the STi.

A stock Max could probably do that if you could drop the clutch from redline and still get traction. That's where AWD comes into play. If you did that in a Max you'd get a nice big smokey burnout and go nowhere fast

The drivetrain on the WRX won't handle hard launches like that for long though. People that do that on a regular basis will probably end up like many S4 owners - broken motor mounts and tranny components.

I can't tell, is that an EVO or a WRX in that clip? Cool drift, hate the tire squeal noise though.

I was wondering the same thing how reliable are these motors will they take the abuse that the VQ can?

but you must also remember that not everyone can drive their cars like the magazine test drivers...the test drivers are one of the best and they know what and how to get the car going at its fullest.
on the other hand, a bunch of hot headed kids driving WRXs...i really really doubt they can get that 5.6 secs from their cars...very rarely...

well, if you look carefully...some tests for the Maximas were done with automatic tranny with fully loaded car...that ran like 15.6 or 15.7....and yeah, people seem to be getting better times in their Maximas than other cars...my first time dragging...i got 15.1(before many things on my car including GReddy, pulley and little more)...

but these pesky Si people...i have yet to witness anyone with a Si than ran lower than 15.5 at the track...

Car and Driver got the WRX to 60 in 5.4 seconds, however, they admitted that they dumped the clutch at 5000 rpms to do that. If WRX owners try that too often, they will definitely be in trouble.

Give the max awd and it will do better than that. Alot of you people do not understand, AWD is 0-30, after that they are dogs. We will leave them.

Do Nissan Tranny's really suck??

The Nissan VQ motor develops alot of torque all across its rev range. This kind of motor will have a tendency to stress a tranny more than a turbo motor will.

In a the turbo, when the engine is revving freely, you have no boost. No boost, not much torque. Spin the Subaru motor at 7K rpm in neutral, no boost, then, as you let the clutch go while holding 7Ks, the boost builds up, so the tranny isn't immediately assaulted with 200 or so lb-ft or torque, just a more gradual step up, unlike with the Maxima. Turbos have lag, and the tranny probably likes that lag.

These cars win the events.

Problem with you asking about VQ vs EJ(Subaru)Motors, is that
Nissan Trannys suck, Subaru trannys have taken 7000rpm clutch drops over and over while I was racing in one on RT 1 in PA.

The WRX is fast...from a stop. Actually...it's ASKLDASJASD FAST. hehe but from a roll it's quite opposite from their performance from a stop. Saw this white wrx on the way to San Diego and I wanted to see what it could do on highway speeds...but he never bit.
