Thanks to lymby for reminding me about this. Does anyone out there with a 5th gen have this problem. High speed, low speed, or on rough roads?? I have a 2001 GXE and there is about a 1/4 inch of play when then the hood is "completely" closed. You can tell by closing your hood all the way and then lifting up or pushing down. If there is any gap then I would assume you could have this problem. It seems like the hood is missing the rubber stops or rests that the hood would rest on or in.

The drivers side of my hood flutters at speeds above 50mph.

I've tried about every possible bump stop height adjustment without any luck. I plan on having the dealer look at it and the drivers mirror vibration the next time I go to the dealer.

lymby said that he had some contact with a dealer about rubber stops. So maybe that's our only cure. Yet another part left off my new max that I'm not gonna pay for. I hope.

IceY2K1. I have the exact symptoms as you do. Did you have the filler hose cover by the gas tank problem too?

I noticed the extra play by pushing down on the hood also...but haven't noticed any rattle from it yet...

Yup, I sure did. I went around and around with service manager and it was the parts department guy that took care of my issue for me. I was going to order it and put it on myself when he started asking why and said thay he would take care of the situation.

Re: .

When I got my Maxima, the hood seemed to be vibrating at speeds above ~50 or so. I mentioned it to my dealer at the next service, he said that he could adjust it out, no problem. I don't know what they did, but it doesn't vibrate any more. But, they did leave a surface scratch in the hood when they were done, probably wiping off the finger prints. Waxed out, but still ****ed me off.

I have the same vibrating hood. I noticed it again (for the third time, I think) today on my way to work. I'll be sure to bring it up later this week when I visit the dealership again.

Hey folks Lymby here.

My salesman called me, and asked if my car was alright and all that stuff. I have only had the car for 16 days, yeah i'm countin. . Well I told him that I was a little disappointed with the
1. Hood Mask that I bought, because they ripped me off. The nissan webpage says that it costs 106, they charged me 110. Then I find out from you guys that saddlman.com, not only has a better one, but it only cost 92 with shipping included.

2. The hood ruddering was another problem I told him about. I said that I want it looked at today. That the rood flutters when I go fast. I told him, what the f is up with that. He said "i have not clue what you are saying.

3. Next I tell him that when I start my car, it takes like an extra few seconds to turn over. It's like the fuel is not going through. He tells me he has never heard that before.

4. Finally, the paint, and you can guess what he had to say about that one. Nothing, absolutely nothing.

the one good thing out of this is the fact that i found out my car was made in january. and i bought it in april. that means it is pretty new. i think there is a post up here somewhere that asks about when your max was made

later. NIssan sucks sometimes, but it is still a great car. i bet when you analyze everything, you are going to find something wrong.

hey lymby....

problem No. 3 on our list, i think that is normal, unless its doing that everytime you start the car. my car did that when i first bought, about 3-4 times that first month, but it never happened again after that. the problem is that the engine is not getting the code from the key, our keys are encoded and are the only ones that will start our cars, so you can't reproduce one of those keys at ace or something. if it happens sometimes, then it should go away, and its normal, if its all the time, take it to the dealer, maybe your key is messed up.

Re: Re: .

Could you tell me who your dealer is or maybe a phone number? I have the same problem but also have a '95 Maxima that has rubber spacers about midway down the hood location above each fender when the hood is open. I ordered these and had them installed but still no luck stopping the vibration. I would like to see what your dealer did to stop it.

Just bought a 2k2 SE (love it) saw the hood bouncing around while driving fast, Knew somthing was not right. Here is how i fixed it...
The hood latch mechinisism is where u cant miss- right in front of the radiator. I sprayed all moving parts with WD40 first. There are 3 bolts in a triange pattern that holds the bracket in place. loosen all enough to be able to move the backet up and down. Push down as hard as u can (i even went so far as to hit the bracket lightly w a hammer to ensure that it was bottomed out). Procede to tighten bolts tight again and........ factory fit!

That was the first thing I noticed 2001 thread Holly Hanna, I quickly ran to find my fire extinguisher to make sure I was ready when I had finished scrolling down just incase the newbie needed some help knocking out the flames.

I do believe this is the oldest thread bump that I have come across

oddly enough...

...i came to search for this very issue nd came across this before even starting search. my hood has this very issue and i worry it is gonna fly open and smash my window. i looked to see if loosening the bolts and lowering it bit would work, but there ddnt seem to be any adjustment options.
after reading this though, i will give it a shot.

great site!

That's pretty darn clever right there! I would have never thought to do something like that. Do you have a picture of the bolt you have in there, or remember what it was. I tried adjusting my factory stops the other day to help combat my rattling hood but their so worn out every time I have to open the hood as soon as I close it they just drop back down

I've been trying to fix this problem for two weeks. My car was missing the bumper that goes on the hood. Got a new one and that didn't work. I got two side bumpers and that didn't really work either. Finally, I realized my car was missing the rubber boot that goes on the white hood sensor (I believe that's what it is) and there was a screw missing from the bottom of the hood latch/horn support. Once I screwed that in and added the boot, my rattling issues were solved.
