squealling, squeaking brakes no judder
squealling, squeaking brakes no judder
I just bought a 2000 gle
the previous owner did the brakes 200 miles ago supposidly
I read the service bulletin about judder and noises
the noise happens all the time except when the brakes are presses.
there is no brake judder at all just the squealling
the sound is like a bunch of cricketts (high pitched metal scraping)
the car has 67000 miles
the prev/owner didnt turn down the rotors
the brakes work great, just the noise os so freaking loud
are there some brake pads that are worse than others
any pads to stay away from?
what should I check for

I would pull the brakes apart and have the rotors turned. When the rotors are turn they have no ridges or grooves from the wear of the old pads. This allows the new pads to make the most contact with the rotor and thus creating a better break in. If the old rotors have ridges or grooves the new pads will only touch these portions of te rotor and that des not help your braking. As far as brake pads are concerned you do get what you pay for to a degree. I have had good experiences with Bendix brake pads. I tend to stay away from the real cheap pads because you will end up replacing them more. For you i would recommend taking the brakes a part and inspecting everthing just for piece of mind. Brakes are to important to do Half-@#$!!!!
if i were you go find an auto parts store get new rotors and pads. I got rotors for the rear $16 a piece and pads like $25 for each wheel. Fairly easy if you dont ruin the caliper. If you change brakes and do it yourself MAKE SURE YOU SPRAY SILICONE...NOT WD-40 on the caliper boot (rubber grommet) around the piston so that it doesnt slip out or rip. it will cost you a new caliper....because you have to push and turn the piston thats how it goes in
P.S. if you see me posting this thing about spraying silicone in every brake thread...dont get mad im just trying to save people the trouble i went through
