Do you have to take your wheels off to clean the inside of the wheels effectively? Does anyone have any tips? Also, there are spots that seem impervious to the brake dust cleaner I am using, does anyone know of anything that works, will scrubbing damage my rims?

I have heard about wax for your rims, would that keep the dust off and make it easier to clean next time?

Thanks...

It is a pain to clean the insides. I use a small brush with soap and water to get as much of the inside I can. I also use those rubber gloves so my hands don't get torn up. But really, no one will even notice the inside of the wheels. You should wax the finished portion of the rims with the same wax you use for your paint. It helps a lot in cleaning off the brake dust and road grime.

Brake line

My brake line sploded and put the fluid all over the inside of the rim. (Be sure the people that put your springs on reattach the clip on the brake line.)
Any ideas on getting that crap off?...Soap ain't cuttin' it!

Use rubber gloves and put your hands in there. They should fit between the spokes (given they are 17").

If you keep them clean, they clean up better. I think they are very noticable when clean.

Look at www.griotsgarage.com as they make both a boars hair brush and foam mittens for cleaning wheels. Their brake cleaner is awesome....but the real hint is their undercarriage detailer to make wheel wells look brand new. You can wax clear coat wheels but remember they are closer to extreme heat and weather so the wax wears off quicker. I try and wax them bi-weekly w/ cleaner wax and seems to help wash the dirt away.

BI-weekly?

Do you really wash and wax your wheels bi-weekly...104 times a year?
You need friends.

pain in the butt

I found that the best way is to take off the wheels to clean the inside. If you have smaller hands than I do, you might be able to get in there. The product I use is Simple Green Auto Pro. It is a foam cleaner that works pretty well. I use a soft bristle toothbrush lightly on the inside of the wheel. Clean them good once, and then you can just do minor cleanings a little more often.

Bi-weekly means once every 2 weeks...so that's 26 times in one year. That's not too bad IMO.

I wash the car weekly ......I try to wax the wheels bi-weekly. Takes 5-10 minutes top !! I wax the entire car every four weeks. I have three cars.....all are cleaned the same way, but two are professionally waxed. Luckily I have a wife that has learned that she must take on part of these chores. She drys 'um while I move onto the next. She warns me that when I die she will NEVER wash another car again. I pray she uses the insurance $$$$ to keep professional detailers in business !!!!!!!!!
