I'd say OEM....JWT is the only company right now that sell 6spd clutches....and its a stage 2....

I have 37k on my OEM right now....doesn't slip what so ever....drove hard on it a few times and I can't get it to slip....this thing grabs fairly well for a stock clutch.....And I know i'm making the power that i'm suppose to out of my 3.5L......becuz I can still spin my tires in 1st,2nd....even with wide rims/tires and aftermarket coilovers....so I doubt my car is low on power that doesn't allow me to slip my clutch

How many miles do u have on your clutch btw? is it slipping?

I've got about 55,000 on my clutch. Took it to the dealer b/c it was grinding and they said it was due to a bad clutch. The car seems to have slowed down too, so i'm not sure what's wrong. I'm thinking that i need to do the service work pretty soon.

what gears grind? if its 3rd gear and only 3rd gear....I believe u have a defective tranny....but if its all gears then I can't input on that.....try shifting slowly see if it still grinds? like lets say u go from 2nd to 3rd....push in the clutch, move to neutral, then put it into 3rd and let go of the clutch...does it grind still?

Yup. Still grinds. I thought it was the tranny too . . . but nissan told me it was the clutch.

Hmmm...thats very weird.....I don't see how changing a clutch has to do with the transmission grinding going away?? Unless it slips real bad, worn out, or your not pushing the clutch all the way inbetween shifts....i just can't see how the clutch could be the problem? hmm....try this....cruise in 4th gear doing 40mph...let off the gas completely, then PUNCH IT....if your tach needle swings up but your speedo goes nowhere...your clutch is slipping.....if you don't get this symptom....then your clutch is fine from what I know.....maybe your not pushing the pedal all the way down? let me know wassup...

how much is the dealership charging u neway?

Nah, when i press on the gas i can tell it's going. there isn't any hesitation. Dealership wanted something like $500 i believe. Could it be the synchros? 3rd is all that grinds, but the gears don't want to go in all the time.

Any advice on how to get my way from nissan?

huh? How can u tell the clutch is going without doing that test? Daily Driving probably isnt enuff horsepower to actually make the clutch slip....u have to PUNCH it in a certain gear to make it slip (if in fact u do have a worn clutch).....also u said there isn't any hesitation? if it doesn't hesitate then u don't have a slipping clutch....if it hesitates when u punch it....it could be the clutch, or related to the engine/drive-by-wire too.....check the FAQ for some more info on that...

$500 does not sound bad at all....especially from the stealership....are they throwing in the parts as well? or is that # just for the labor alone? Also remember to ask them if the clutch they are trying to sell u is a KEY VALUE one....if indeed it is, then REFUSE to buy this clutch at all costs.....tell them that u want the OEM Nissan one...not the key value one.....The OEM one will cost more but it will save u alot of trouble down the road.....

Yes it could be your synchros as well.....6spd maximas have a known tranny problem in 3rd gear....and since u said it only grinds in 3rd gear....then u probably have the defective tranny synchro just like a bunch of other ppl on the .org do...

i have a 00 maxima and when i'm at WOT racing i shift from 2nd to 3rd and it ALWAYS grinds. this has started to happen when i got my tranny repaired. it doesn't grind during regular driving but when i push the car hard, it always grinds third gear. anyone know what this is? and don't think i'm weird but i'm suspecting i have a 95-99 shift lever in my car. bought my car used and it's VERY hard to go in first and stiff as fuuuuuck to shift.

i got the jwt at 32k...i had the tranny replaced under warranty for the 3rd gear grind that became a stuck gear! anyway, justin at import auto parts had one from spec and supposedly, stealin should have theirs done. i am very pleased with the jwt for 299! i was under the impression it was a stg 1 not 2. if it is, the feel is very close to stock. better engagement, but not much different from stock...i stand behind the jwt. very pleased and have 61k now...9 mos later! hope it helps.

it started about 30k and it was just real minor, and i had the tech note it on my records at the dealership. i came in several times with this and other minor service issues, and started asking about tranny replacement, and they submitted the paperwork for that and the clutch howl. both got approved, but i could only do one or the other would get kicked back. they ordered the tranny, but they were on backorder for about a month. by the time it came in, the grind was getting to be pretty bad...starting to affect other gears. the day i was taking it to the dealership, i was approaching a light in 3rd, and engaged the clutch and brake, and went to engage first while stopped, and couldn't move the car out of 3rd! i had issues originally with both up and down in 3rd, and it was more severe on the up, but was more nagging on the down shift. for the record, this tranny has a slight grind to it also. i just hope it is not going to end up like the last one. apparently it is a design flaw in most 6speeds. i understand the the s2000 is really bad w/ 3rd gear. true story.
