16s on 5.5

i'm thinking about buying smaller lightweight rims. But i talked to a Discount Tire salesperson, and he said that there was a note on his computer about downgrading rim size on a 2k2 max would be a bad idea because of rubbing on the rotors. Would these rims fit my 2k2 SE 6spd MT?

(this was mentioned briefly in another thread, but i'd like to get more opinions)

Do you have aftermarket BBK? If not, just note that 2k2-2k3 GXE's came standard with 16" 215/55R16's

When I do an internet search for rotors on a 2002 Maxima, they don't ask for trim level so I would assume they use the same rotors? Your best bet would to obtain part#'s for GXE vs. SE rotors and compare them. If they are the same #, they are likely the same part.

I know for a fact that 15" rims fit, albeit with 4mm of clearance to the caliper...point is they fit. 16" will fit with no problem. Just make sure the offset is correct (and obviously the bolt pattern)

I replaced my 17" rims for the winter with 16" steel wheels and have had no issues. I am running the same tire size as the 2002 GXE. Hope that helps.

that's interesting. call discount tire again and say u want snow tires. They should recommend a smaller size over the stockers. On tire rack.com, they recommend (and I bought) u go down 1 size, bec. a narrower tire helps plow thru the snow easier. I've had no rubbing at all on my 16" snows. HTH. (BTW, snows make the Max a diff. car in snowy conditions - i highly recommend them).

16s should fit because 2k2-2k3 GXEs came with 16s stock.
