3.5 L swap in 2k1

Hey guys, yesterday I went to a local junk yard to buy a rear caliper set and a ABS sensor ( BTW I got the 3 parts for 150$ CDN ) the dealer was asking a little over 500$ for the ABS sensor, anyway while I was there I asked them if they can find me a 5 speed tranny I want to swap my auto tranny, but unfortunately they said they rarely have one, but on the other hand he said he would make me a deal on a 2k3 maxima - 3.5L + 6 speed tranny for 1500$ cdn, the engine only has 30000KM, before I jump in and buys both, I'm wondering howe difficult it would be to transplant the 3.5 and 6 speeds on my 2k1? Is there any right up as far as part needed to do the swap, what would be the downside of doing this.

Any response would be appreciate, since if this is a good alternative I would then buy the 3.5 and tranny tommorow.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers

AA

This has been asked a few times, do a quick search and see what comes up. I think the consensus is that it would be cheaper and easier to sell your current 5th gen and pick up a 5.5.

He's not asking about just a gearbox swap, but an engine and gearbox swap. The 3.5 has throttle by wire, so I would expect that you would need the gen 5.5 ecu as well.

It seem that it would be a pain so I'm going to keep searching for a 5 speeds.

heres an idea, 00-01 Maximas are worth nothing anyways, get rid of your car, get an 02/03 six speed (car that is) and just be happy.

I have no intention to sell my car, I have too much work on it to just sell it and start over with a 2k2-3. Once my project is done most 2k2-3 will need visor to have a good look of my rear bumper.lol

Imo it's only worth doing on a 4th gen, because of the weight, and price, difference. My car + the swap, headers and all the bolt ons cost me about the equivalent of 8,000$US in the end. A 2k2 is worth twice that. That and, I'd have to give everything I have + my left nut to pay insurance. The price is already ridiculous for a 95.

Supercharge the 2k1 and laugh at 5.5 gens instead

On the other hand 1500$cnd is Truly cheap. I paid 1200$cnd for just the engine. Specially for a 6-speed. 6speeds are rare as hell in Quebec. ALL of them are freakin' automash*ts.

nah i would stay with the current engine/tranny...its not worth going through all the trouble swapping out...just spend that money on other mods or whatever...but thats just my opinion

wire harness, ECU, and possibly the ABS modulator would have to be repleaced, the instrument cluster needs to be repleaced also. You need to weld on a new trans mount to the frame of the car cause 3.5L uses a diff tranny mount. The ABS modulator needs to be relocated or the shifter linkage hits it. Firewall needs to have the hole where the A/T shift selector cable goes through- enlarged in order to fit the shifter cables throught there. Overall, you will be stuck with a good engine and a POS tranny.

Like I've said I keep on my research for a 5 speeds, I have no intention of spending 10-12k on a motor swap, I though for a moment... so I'll keep that money for the Stillen S/C.
