A staggered (tire) setup won't screw with mileage reading?

A staggered (tire) setup won't screw with mileage reading?

Well, after having to pass on the Evo5s, I think I'm gonna' settle on the 350Z 17'' rims. Now, the rims are 17x7.5F and 17x8R, so I know there won't be a problem with that. But the rear tires are 235-50, as opposed to the front which are stock 225-50. Sooo, my question is...will this affect my mileage reading? Any mileage errors? Logically, I'm thinking no, because we're FWD so there isn't any power really going to the rear wheels. But I want to be certain.

the only thing that will cause an error in your speedometer reading is a different circumference on the tire. Absolutely nothing to do with stagger or drive wheels.

Right, I know. But the rear tire will be 235-50, as opposed to 225-50. Will that have any effect on readings or not? Because if all four tires were 235-50, there would be a 1.5% error. 60mph would equal 61mph...but since only the rear tires would be 235, I'm not quite sure what would happen.

The difference in the speedo would be negligible. You should be fine since the tire size is close to stock. The only difference would be the increased understeer because of the staggered setup, but it shouldnt be a big difference since the rears are only 10mm wider than the fronts.

Cool. I also figure that since the rear tires are only dragged along (more or less) that it shouldn't even have any effect on the mileage readings.

i ran the 18's from a track z, and didn't have any problems. i had the 225's in front and 245's in rear. the worst that could happen is the abs light. the rear may turn slower than the front. that isn't likely, but always a posibility. you should be fine. i say go ahead.

225 is the width 50 is the height so that would not screw with anything

the rear tires will spin slower (larger diameter), and that will cause the wheel speed sensors to register some kind of anomoly, and may cause the light to come on...like i said, i never had it happen, but it could theoretically happen. thats why.

The diameter is not bigger just the width... both wheels are 17"

um...the outside diameter is bigger on the 235/50-17 by 1.5% as stated by NYPD. the wheel size, 17, yes is the same all the way around, but the first number, 225 or 235 is measured in mm and is the width of the tire. the second number, 50 is the percentage or proportion of side wall to the width of the tire. so the the sidewall on a 225/50-17 should be about 115mm. search for miata tire calculator and put in the tire sizes.

this will, again, probably NOT cause any issues, but it could cause an abs light.

i would not hesitate to do it. i have, and never experienced any issues other than the rear of the car stays planted more in HARD turns.

i hope that clarifies things a bit.

I'm more concerned with wheel bearing loads long term more than speedo accuracy, as the offsets are more negative - pushes the wheels out more. The stockers and my Evo 5's have 40mm offset. Does this affect caster (steering) and handling in general? What about fender lip clearance? Pics of this set up would be great!
