Just bought the anniversary edition SE. The dealer recommended waxing the car with NuFinish and then washing the car therafter with water only and no soap. He said wax every three months with NuFinish and never use soap on the car ... just water and a soft cotton cloth for washing and drying. What do you all think? Good advice? Is NuFinish a good product? What about the no soap business? Just water is okay? Thanks

P.S. The car stays outside ... no garage

Worst advice ever! Use a mild soap always! A liquid car wash concentrate is available at any auto parts store. The soap helps lift the dirt and lubricates the surface so it won't scratch. NuFinish is pretty harsh. I recomend a product like Meguiars or Mothers carnuba wax. The car is brand new so the paint is still clean keep a good caot of carnuba on and wax as often as you want. Wax at least every three months.

i have used nufinish years ago and it is like turtle wax in my opinion.. i reciently used zaino brothers and it is the best wax etc.. that i hav ever used. it makes your paint reflect like a mirror.. i beleive their web page is zainobrothers.com?? but i am not 100% sure.. as for soap they recommended no dish soap or wax added soap only pure car wash

washing a car w/ just water will imbed the dirt into the already fine finish. (you'll see dings and chips in about a week with our micron finish !!!) www.zainobros.com is the rage on this site and appears to be #1. Maybe we should look into a wax poll.........

Zain-o Zain-o Zain-o Zain-o

Sorry, fellas. My order should be on a big brown truck somewhere between NJ and here. Cannot wait to get that stuff on my baby.

Of course it probably won't look as good as FloMax's but it's all good. Check his thread "Zaino results" for pix of his ride. In a word: "Sweet" and that's only after one coat. Wait till he gets two or three on there.

Woo-hoo... I've got Max on the brain!

don't listen to that salesman....water alone ain't goin to get the job done right, esp since u park outside. you can follow his instruction but i doubt you want to lose that nice shine in a new ae. i know i personally hate seeing my ae without it's shine

yikes

Sounds like your sales guy was smokin some crazy sh*t. Definately use car wash soap. No dish soap. And then protect that very sensitive paint. Zaino is definately right up on top.

NO Soap Bizness?????

HE must have been old school...however, even the mildest detergents strips the car's finish oils that help protect the car's finish. I know that some detailers for Porsche, Ferrari, & BMW have ,solely, used deionized water to bathe their beauties. If you are going to use soap try using a cap full of ----- vegetable oil ( yes, vegetable oil- about a teaspoon per 2 gallons or more). It does two things it helps encapulates the dirt and restores the oils to the finish.

Sounds like that guy wants to sell you a paint job.
I never wax my cars, instead I use a teflon paint sealant.
You apply it once a year, then wash as often as you want with car wash soap and that's it.
The paint stays literally like new for years.
It also is cheap at $20 for 16 oz. enough for 4-5 cars.

HOW OLD's YOUR SALESMAN??

I never knew NUFINISH was still in production. I remember seeing those lame commercials in the '80's. Back then I thought that stuff was OK nonetheless, cool. But that's when I didn't have a car.

Come to think of it, it wasn't made for clearcoats. There's other much more superior (and higher quality) stuff out there, like the all time fav, Zaino.

The Zaino thread at edmunds.com's town hall has discussed such products as Nufinish in the past. It's still around, but it's not the way to go! Zaino rules!
