n00bie- not really, but new to 5th Gens. My wife and I just bought a 2K 5MT SE this weekend, and when she filled it up for the first time (today), the car accepted 15-16 gallons of fuel, but the gauge would not read over 1/2 tank. ANy suggestions for a home-remedy, any how-to's for this fix? I did a search and found these threads:

i was thinking perhaps a shop or even a dealer attempted to replace the fuel filter and somehow damaged the float. i replaced my fuel filter a while back and am trying to think if it was a part that was in view when pulling the fuel pump/filter assembly but i cannot remember off hand. i can check the fsm for any useful info unless someone else posts it first. i dont have access right now but should in a few hours.

One more try. Maybe I should have asked about neons or tint colors or hyperwhite bulbs...

Sloppy is correct it seems. When I had my 5th gen, the dealership replaced the fuel filter, and in the process, they messed up my float. A couple days later when I filled my car up, it stuck at like 1/4 tank, so I took it back to the dealer, AND THEY SAID THEY DIDNT MESS IT UP!! So I argued with them for a couple days, and they said they'd fix it for parts + 1.2 labor costs, I told them where to go, got online, downloaded the parts manual (can't remember where I got it, it's been way to long) Found out what I needed, called up DaveB, and I think the parts cost me like $20 or a little more, and me and my bud replaced my float, and it was like new.

So alll in all, get the online parts manual, or just call DaveB, he'll fix you right up. Once again, it's been a LONG time, like a year ago, I don't even know if DaveB is in the scene, but I'm sure someone knows, or you could search. Call him, give him the problem, and you'll have the parts in a couple days.
