Y pipe cali spec will create engine run unstable, Please help.

Hi all,

I brought my car to exhaust shop this morning to get the Y pipe changed. The mechanic told me that my budget cali spec only eliminate the precat engine block no #1,3,5. While engine block #2,4,6 still have the precat.
With this definitely the run of the engine will be unbalance. UNless i want to remove the precat (on the vertical direction) of block #2,4,6.

Since i can not believe that guy, i brought my car to nissan dealer asking for that same question. eventhough nissan doesn't want to change that pipe due to illegal emission, but still they said that YES it will make the run of my engine unbalance. Basically front engine (close to front bumper) will run more difficult compare to rear engine (close to cabin).

Are those guy correct?? If yes, can i force my car (2001 nissan AE) which use cali spec Y pipe to Federal spec Y pipe?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Yes, you will still have one precat on the engine on Cali specs.

Nobody has had any negative side effects from the difference in backpressure caused by only removing one precat.

If you are still concerned, you could always install a $50(junkyard) fed spec manifold on the front bank to remove the precat ala DesertPearl Cali-to-Fed spec conversion in sticky, however you'll need to relocate the rear 02s behind the main cat or run 02 sims.

The rear pre cat is very restrictive IMO. The front pre cat is more straight through. I've had my Cali spec Y-pipe on for a while now and have had no problems.
