Cruise control sucks
I can't believe how bad the cruise control is on my 01 se. On a straight flat road it drives my car like it just got it's learners permit. It's throttle on, throttle off, throttle on, throttle off. You can actually feel the surge on your back. And it's not a temporary thing--that's how it maintains the speed mile after mile. I'd do better with a brick.

I have the same problem with my 01 GLE. I seems to search or you can feel it going up and down when cruise is on 70mph or so. Took it to dealer and they could find nothing. I did leave my negative cable off of my battery over night and it helped a little.

Interesting to hear that I'm not the only one. "Hunting" is a good way to describe the problem. I'm wondering if it's connected to another throttle issue I've noticed. If the road is going downhill at a low angle and I lift off the throttle completely, the car slows down too much, but when I give it the least amount of throttle possible it accelerates too much. There is no throttle position available that maintains speed. Drove the same piece of road I'm thinking of in my Blazer last night. No problem.

Maybe I'll try that. Where do I go to tighten the cable.
Just came back from the dealer. What a bunch of dunderheads! Seriously, probably one of the most unprofessional business offices I have ever seen. Three of the "mechanics are playing with remote control cars in the service bays. They're actually setting up little pylons. The others are having snacks from the vending machine and hitting on the secretaries. Nobody tells me what's going on. I have to ask, then she gets the mechanics report. It says that the floormat was on the gas pedal!!!!! That makes sense! That would cause it to surge in rythmic fashion mile after mile when the cruise was on. Where do they get these guys from? I hold back from exploding because I've been there with my bored five year old for an hour now for them to give me this useless piece of nonsense. I inform them of the service bulletin from Nissan on the exact problem. They look at me like I have seven heads. Then they decide to look into it. Finally the answer comes. Accelelorator control unit with parts and labour comes to $394.49 plus tax.
Two questions: Are service bulletin issues only covered for the length of the warranty?
And since I bought my car privately--are all Nissan dealerships this pathetic?

If the std or extended warranty period is over, any TSB work comes out of your pocket.
p.s. welcome to the wonderful world of Nissan stealerships and their nonexistent customer service. Most are that way and if you are lucky to find a Nissan dealer you trust, charish them. You should bring them donuts, send them xmas cards and make sure you meet all their needs...
