LEDs

Pending the LED project some companies are doing - I went ahead, and put in 7443 LEDs in my stock housings (tail lights) Since they take low voltage, my dash light comes on when i hit the brake (with lights off) and the lights comes on and stays on when i turn on the lights.. this dash light tells me i have a bulb out.. is there a fix for this?

any info would be great.

I was thinking of just splicing in another regular bulb, and just have it hanging in my trunk, so it draws a little more power, but is there anything else?

You could always add more LED's, or perhaps add resistors to flow out the power. Any pics of the tails working? I'm dying to see how this looks.

You need a pair of 6-ohm load resistors. You can purchase them at autolumination.com...I also have a spare set around I would be willing to part with for real cheap

Led

I'll try to get a pic asap. I'm in process of moving, and painting so I really don't know where my camera is at.. I'll get on as soon as i can.

What did you mean by add more leds? All i did was put in a 7443 LED bulb in the housing, so i can't really add any more. I'll try that load risister thing.. How much can you sell it to me for? Do I need 2 of them.. 1 on each side?

I have been thinking about doing something similar, especially with the rear turn signals. Let me know how you make out with the resistors and would it be the same resistance for the signals?

Yep, one for each side. I will sell you a new pair for $10 (shipping included).

Nice, theses are just what i have been looking for. Just curious, where are the resistors installed, spliced into the lead wire or somehow in-line with the bulb? I didnt see them on the autolumination site.....link?

FYI - response from Autolumination.com......

One six ohm equalizer will resolve the bulb-out issue:

i think he just put the normal 7443 wedge bulbs in, so they wont really appear as LEDs...correct me if i'm wrong though...

correct....when viewed thru the stock red lenses, they do not appear different than stock bulbs, they just have the instananeous on/off action so their isnt a delay between illumination of the 3rd brake light and the tail lights. i am using red LEDs for my gay clear taillights (custommaxima.com) becuase they shine true red. the red coated standard type bulbs that came with my gay taillights shine a gay purplish red color that didnt quite match the 3rd brake light...not that their is anything wrong with that

Sorry i didnt mean to offend anyone in stating my opinion about the tail lights on ebay. Everyone has their own style. I wanted to get those when they first came out but the problem was i dont want an aftermarket look which those give.

Thanks alot deckdout, i appreciate it especially from a person who has a nicer looking car than i do.

Thanks for clearing it up though, and if anyone has the tail lights that are on the stillen website, POST THOSE PICS!

thanks
brandon

no offense taken...i was just messin wit ya. and IMO clear tails probably only work well on lighter cars....if you look at my cardomain page, my steelo is NO RED/ORANGE on the car...just silver with black trim (my TA is the opposite black/silver trim also with no visible orange or red). so i had to get rid of the stock tails with the red top & orange bottom. if i had a black max like yours, i would def stick with the 00-01 SE tails.....makes me wish i had gotten black i didnt think i could keep up trying to keep 3 black rides clean, 2 is enuf!

Ha.. My mistake. I do believe I had a few to many the night I posted that. I didn't realize you just had the actual led bulb replacement wedge. I used to have these in my old Mazda a few years ago, they basically just projected a lighted dot onto the tail lense. And back on topic, you will need 6-ohm resistors to make it work properly.
