Many of us have had a slipping A/T problem, especially from first to second gear as indicated in the TSB Reference# NTB00-039a. Does anyone know why Nissan has not issued a recall to fix these transmissions?

A guess: It's not a recall probably because they think many people would not notice it. If you don't push your car past 3k rpm, it would be tought to notice the problem. Plus, I guess it isn't really a safety issue either. For those who notice, they can get it fixed.....

What's the slipping transmission symptom? When I accelerate hard, in the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts it will sometimes pause, sort of keep a steady RPM but not kick in the next higher gear for a second or two. Is this what you're referring to? And if there is a TSB on it, will the dealer fix my car if I request it, or will I have to fight?

I would call it a safety issue at times. I'll recall my trip back from California in December. We pulled to the side of the highway to clean up a drink spill. The highway was rather busy. While accelerating to get back on the highway the tranny started slipping, then caught right as we crossed the textured pavement at the side of the road. Next thing you know, massive torque steer and it nearly flung me into the next lane. Not a good thing.

hay, that happened to me before but i didn't think anything of it....acutally it happened to me a couple of time and i always just thought i was over steering.....so is there a way to really test this out and see if there is a real prob with it?

At least get the solenoids replaced before something bad happens to the tranny.
I had them replaced a month or so ago and the shifting is much more positive with no delay between gears.
I haven't replaced the TCM and don't think I will unless I notice any new slippage.
My dealer (Round Rock Nissan) new of the TSB and replaced the solenoids without any hassle. They were able to reproduce the problem according to the TSB.

Find yourself a good clear hill. Start from a stop (if possible). Floor it. My car would hang around 42mph then slam into gear and viola, torque steer. If you get that, then you need to get your tranny serviced.
