Labor charges, The Book they refer to:

Ok, Im just wondering if there is a website or something that we can go to for this Magical book auto mechanics use to see how many hours labor to charge customers for installations. Im just curious because i want to have my UDP's installed. and i don't want to get jipped. I've seen people pay anything from 30 bucks to 150. So if anyone knows where i can look up this type of info. it would help a ton.

plus i need:

-Pads
-lines
-rotors
-brake fluid exchange

all done, front and rear. got a bunch of steallin goodies here.

all depends on where you take your car in for service

Instead of looking for the magic book, why not call around your local mechanics and ask them how they would charge?

i don't know about you guys...but whenever i call places...i get the fealing the people there hate people who call in. they always treat you like your a burden and that your not serious...which is why i generally walk into places and ask stuff like this. which i plan to do. but i like to go in informed so i dont just say...ok, that sounds fair to the first one...and so i dont waste all day bouncing from one place to another.

The book you're talking about called the Mitchell Manual labor. I know what your'e talking about, generally it's around like 68-70 bucks an hour. Lucky it's not a Benz cuz I took my Mercedes to have something worked on and they cost 78 bucks an hour on labor. Thank god i'm mechnically competent to know about cars but a few execption such as the tranny.

Motors labor time manual or Michells. Motors is more widely used, around here Nissan is 99 a hour, and my dealership- Acura charges 120 a hour, and so does Benz etc.

My dealer charges $85/hr, but you can usually negotiate them down a bit.

My mechanic, who only works on foreign cars i usually $60/hr. But the thing is - if you ask him up front how much it will cost to do something - he will quote you by the book. If you don't ask and just do it - it comes out much cheaper and if you pay cash - even cheaper than that
