Help me out please....(BERK ?)

so i got my 03 max back in january. my girlfriend got me the berk technology intake for my birthday with the k&n filter...anyway i have a couple questions....im not sure if i want to keep the one with the k&n filter because of the higher chance of messing up the MAF sensor with the oil etc...should i return it and get the one with the apexi filter? is it worth it to go through returning it? or should i just keep it and hope there are no problems? my second question is she just got the confirmation e mail to say that it is going to arrive via UPS on around March 3rd...but the address it is shipping from is from Laura Heng in Irvine, CA...who the hell is that? is that the address i should expect it to come from when i order a product from Berk? please enlighten me because im still pretty new to the max community.

thanks alot

I ordered the Apexi for the reason of the oiled K&N. Didn't want to mess with it. If ou still have it in the box I'd send it back for an exchange. Brian is here on the org somewhere. Just ask.

If you don't over-oil, you won't blow the MAF. I've used a K&N or InJen for 65k miles. No problems so far.

same here. I used the k&n because of the oil. I think the oil helps trip more dirt. I just dont over oil it.

yeah it comes preoiled. you will know when to reoil and clean it because the filter will start to look black, not pink. when it starts to get darker and more black, its time to clean and reoil.

i have the K&N, but only for about 4K so far.

so maybe ill keep the k&n one then. it wouldnt make a difference in sound would it? see my last dilemma is that i am still not sure if i will be able to keep the car but while i have it i want to have a good time with it. my insurance on the car is $9000 a year in NJ for full coverage...i can afford it but i dont want my life to revolve around paying for my insurance...but i def plan on having it for a while longer...any other opinions are appreciated. thanks again

Get another insurance agent! 9K a year: you must've killed someone to get rates that high.

this is not true, if you under-oil the filter will not stop particles from getting in and the MAF will blow, that is how mine blew.

I have used the K&N for years. Drop in on my 95 max and now with my Berk in my 2000 I30.

You only need to clean and re-oil it every 40-50K miles, unless it looks really dirty. Over oiling it is what can kill the MAF but they come already oiled when new.

As far as insurance in NJ, I have always found Liberty Mutual to have good rates. Give them a try:

Good luck!

I've got the Berk with K&N installed on my 2k3 SE. So far I love it. It's been on for about 1,000 miles, and so far no problems. I bought mine used, so I had to clean it and reoil it before installing it. The cleaning process is VERY easy, but it just takes a while to wait for the filter to air dry before you reoil it. My bottle of K&N Filter Cleaner and my spray can of K&N Filter Oil should last me for a very very long time.

I think Laura Heng is one of Bryan's people....

Also, I've had a K&N drop in and a Berk with K&N for a total of 38500 miles and have never had a MAF issue.... just don't over oil it when ya clean it....
