Need to Replace Alternator

My car died the other day. Used jumper cables to charge the battery. With the car idling, it died about 5 minutes later. Did this twice. I'm pretty sure it's the alternator. The car shouldn't stall once it's running if the alternator was good. Correct?

Can anyone provide me with a How-To on changing the alternator?
The main thing is do I have to take off the Radiator hose to change it?
Thanks.
