If you can't afford much right now, don't do much right now.

Is there something up with the Stillen Y-pipe that makes the cattman a better buy? I'm actually a little concerned that if i drop for Headers It'll be mad sound all over the highway and lose too much bottom-end torque because of no backpressure. . .trying to retain some streetable characteristics and a little stealth if you know what i mean...
Cattman headers are best, period.
Stillen equal-length Y-pipe is second-best.
Cattman Y-pipe is third best.
Warpspeed and Budget are tied for fourth.
Everything else either sucks or is inconsistent in build quality.

You read wrong. I meant that Cattman headers are the best thing to have, and the Stillen Y-pipe is the second-best thing (I actually forgot about Hotshot headers... they fit somewhere in the top 3).
If you're just looking at Y-pipes, it's Stillen equal-length first, Cattman second.

bpipe is cheapest for a couple hp
headers are most expensive for the most hp
ypipe is not worth it with a VQ35 car.
.....that's all you need to know.

headers have nothing to do with the tranny. Engine power is engine power, regardless of transmission.

Why is y-pipe not worth it ??
In 2003+ Maximas, the pre-cats are integrated into the headers, so they'll still be there if you install an aftermarket Y-pipe. Since the pre-cats are the most restrictive part of the exhaust, replacing anything downstream of them won't really do much.
