Transmission whine. Help.

Car: 2000 GXE 5pd

Symptom 1: The tranny whines when the car is parked and the gear in neutral. The whining stops when I press in the clutch.

Symptom 2: It whines in 1st gear.

What could be the cause of this? I don't remember when it started doing this.. I did change the tranny fluid with synthetic couple years ago. Can low/too much tranny fluid be the cause of this? I'm pretty sure I put in the proper amount.. If the tranny oil leaks, where do I need to look?

HELP!

Possibly the clutch throw-out bearing is bad. Do you spend a lot of time on the clutch... living in NOVA I know you spend a lot of time in traffic. Stop & go traffic is hard on a clutch. Take it to the dealer for a confirm.

I hear this is pretty common, DAVEB just replaced his trans due to this problem.

You should PM him and see what he says.

Throw out bearing needs to be replaced, Better ge that fixed before the Throw out bearing cuase more wear and tear in on the clutch and peice might scratch up the flywheel.

May want to get ready to replace the clutch itself while there in there. More than likley your clutch plate is close to minimum thickness already, so may as well replace it for good measure. Take it to Brown Nissan in Fairfax and ask for "Buzz" and tell him your and tell him that a friend of "Rob" told you to look him up for service. Good luck.
