I have a 2000 SE and I just recently got my all four rotors replaced under warranty because the whole car was shaking when breaking at highway speeds.

Anyways, they put four new rotors and new pads at all four corners.

I drove about 1K on this new rotors already, I notice that when I break, I smell something that smells like breaks. Also, I was breaking hard couple times in a row and smoke started coming from the front wheels. It was kind of blackish smoke.

What could they messed up that causes the breaks to smell excessively and cause smoke to appear?

Thanks

Another Brake Problem...

After hard braking a few times, I notice that my brakes make a scraping noise until they cool down. I've also got the wobble of death beginning to happen when braking from freeway speeds, so I'll need to replace those, soon, but what's up with the scraping noise?

Hrrm... could it just be normal brake wear in? Or could it be the way you spell BRAKE?

Very hard br(e)aking will cause your br(e)akes to smoke and smell... don't worry too much about it.

It could be rust on the rotors. I get that scraping noise after it rains, or after i wash my car.

Is it low pitched (not too noticeable) and continuous even though you're accerlating? Maybe the metal parts expanded from the hard braking? I'm not sure, but that's my theory.

Well, I never had this happen to me before

The smell and the smoke that coming from the front wheels is not normal I think. And I am not talking about that rubbery smell that coming from the tires when you corner hard . This is different, dusty smell. Definitely coming from the brakes.

When I had my original rotors on the car I never saw smoke coming from the front wheels when I brake.

Could it be that they installed wrong pads or something?
I guess I will take back to dealer and let them see what could be doing that.

Thanks again.

While the scrape is low-pitched and not too noticeable (only when the windows are down), but I'm fairly sure it's only while braking. I don't think this precludes your theory, but tell me if this modifies your thinking somewhat - now that I think about it, I got some of the same noise under similar conditions in my 200SX. When I switched to Stillen cross-drilled rotors, the noise went away. Watcha think, Kev?
