Interior lighting...blue changed to red...
Interior lighting...blue changed to red...
well, not quite done yet.
Anyhow, I did all the door/window switches with 900 mcd red LEDs (and resistors, where needed)
Did the climate control with 3 900 mcd red leds in the same spots as the stock bulbs (removed them). They work great, but I need to replace them with some wider-angle LEDs so the light dissipates better (as you can see in the pics)
Changed the displays to white by putting red cellophane over the LCD screens (red+green=white)...hoping to improve visibility in the daytime.
Also added 3 LEDs to the bottom light (above the coin tray/bottom of c.c.) that shine down nicely.
Now the only problem. After taking apart the Bose, it became apparent that it will be VERY difficult to put LEDs in it (plus, you'd need to put in about 10 of them). Notsure what I'm gonna do about that....I may just use this as an excuse to finally switch to a new headunit (last pic is the one i'm interested in, since it kind of "matches" our interior and I can change the color to like 700 different colors.)
so here's what the back sections look like, and the front, and the possible future head unit. No, I'm not doing a write-up, it was pretty complicated, but easy if you know LED wiring......I had to re-do it a couple times to get everything working right, and don't recall the "correct" way to do it now...

also easier on the eyes....the blue would really tire my eyes out when I was driving for a while at night....
I thought about white also...but decided it was a little too boring
Just for comparison's sake....here's the OEM red in my wife's Mazda 3

It is "almost" as nice as the Audi interior (but not quite)
I never really liked the red/blue interior on her old 2000 Jetta, though...
