I must have a bumper sticker in my Maxima (that I am not aware of) that says "Race me!". I guess it goes with the territory when you have a Max SE. So anywho, there I was at the light and this bone head with a Ford Explorer pulls up, inching up on me like he is gonna beat me to the green light. Light turns green, and sure in enough the guy takes off. I am neck and neck with the guy for a little bit just to humor him (give him false hope maybe) and then I decide that I had enough of this moron, so I floor it. VRROOOM! my VQ purrs like a kitten and the Explorer quickly becomes a dot in my rear view. So I ease up return to a leisuerly pace and forget about the Explorer. Sure enough a little bit later the guy flies by me...this guy didn't get it, race over, he lost, Maxima rules.

Speed!

I had almost the same incident

There are 3 lanes(2 lanes which all cars uses and the 3rd which nobody uses because after the intersection its back to 2) I always take the 3rd one and pass everybody. but this dude in a GMC Jimmy on my left thought that if he would floor it i couldn't get in front of him to the 2 lanes. So i floor it pass him by couple of car lenghts and get to the 2 lane road.

Some people just don't get it.

That was what I thought, a S6 was beside me, he was playing with me and I didn't even know. Then the guy in sunglasses looked at me and flies. Keep in mind that I was at 3rd flooring traveling at about 90mph.....

Roger

If you have only 13.5 miles then you haven't finished the break in process yet. Once you get to 1000 miles i say floor it once so you can feel the power and then think about flooring it again.

He said 13.5 "k" miles so it would appear that the break-in period has been over for some time.

I'm with you Roger. Been finished with the break-in period for over a week now and am finally starting to take the Max past 3k rpm. You just want to treat it nice...it's my baby. :gapteeth

i agree that max rules, i did three manual shift yesturday and one today and it's awesome with the speed i got. i got an auto(although i wish i hada stick) and manual shifting is the only thing that i can do to my car taht is closest to a stick and it gets me the most speed i can get out of the car. i know it's kinda bad for the car but i can't help it, it's like haven a juicy steak in front of you and you've been starved for days but u can't only look but can't eat it.

Yes, its bad...you get pretty crappy gas mileage when you race. Seriously, it's not good for the tranny if you have an auto like me. If you are in the habit of flooring your car, your tranny will be short lived. But its good to open it up once in while, especially to rid yourself of pesky morons like the guy in the Exporer.

Does manual shifting really make a differance on an auto? I figured it would be no faster than just keeping it in D yet put my engine at more risk so I never bother. If it makes me faster though, I'll try it!

shifting your auto manually will allow you to get to redline. If you shift at 6100 rpm by hand, the tranny will shift close to 6400, which is near redline and the point where you make the most hp.

Speed!
...this is why you need to turn off the road just after
you pass them - as if you've gotten to where you want to
go.

Then they don't get a chance to "pass you back".
