LSD for the Maxima

I am trying to sell my max and have a guy asking me if it has Helical Limited Slip Diff.? I'm not the most technical guy in the world and know what LSD is but my first question is what is he referring to regarding Helical? And second, was this even an option on the 02 Maxima? Thanks in advance!!

1. Yes, it was an option.

2. Open your hood, look on the top right side of the engine bay and you'll see a plate with various numbers, with the VIN one of the numbers... look down to find the numbers to find the transaxle code.

3. If its RS6F51A ya have open differential. If its RS6F51H then ya have HLSD.

4. If drilled pedals came STOCK, then sometimes that indicates a Max with HLSD too, but doubt the reliability of checking that way....

Hope that helps....

so the drilled pedals were an option as well? I never knew that! I would be able to tell if it had the HLSD by driving though right? AKA, when taking off in 1st either hard or in rain, it would not pull right or left correct? I would just look but the car is at home and I'm at work.... Thanks a lot!

I doubt the drilled pedals were really an option, they just came with HLSD cars... I THINK... and yeah, I think you could tell on launches like ya said... someone else told me another way to "check it" is to go to an empty road and dump the clutch at around 4000 rpms... if ya leave twins, then ya probably have HLSD...

But I say just look at the transaxle code...

So looking at the transaxle code is not a "real way to tell"?

Thanks for taking the effort....

But those numbers that Housecor is using are from the model number/code, which isn't wrong... I was asking about the transaxle code, which is the number towards the bottom.... if its RS6F51A its no HLSD, if its RS6F51H then ya have HLSD... many others have used this to tell if a Max has HLSD or not....

That's correct (my bad, I'm having a bad week at work and I'm very cranky and I only focused on the the drilled pedals coments). In general, from the VIN, if the H is present, the car came originally with an LSD (viscous for the 5 speed, helical for the 6s).
