Is it OK to lower on stock shocks?

I just wanterd to know if everything will work alright if i lower my car with just springs adn leave the shocks stock. I think that maxima uses Tokico shocks in the first place, so getting Blues will be just substituting my stock shocks, right? All 4 of my shocks are fine, so i'll be able to run them with springs? yes/no/maybe so? thanks guys, appreciate your help.

I LOVE THE ORG!!!

i'm sure if you run something "mild" like Maxspeeds....stock struts will be OKAY.....just don't expect them to last very long....

i wouldnt recommend it even though i have done it. I have chopped maxspeeds and my struts are still good... surprisingly. Others havent had such luck. Anyways, i just recommend against it because if you are going to replace the struts anyways, might as well do it at once since its time consuming.

Depends how many miles are on the OEM shocks. I would replace them if you have more than 30,000 miles. Otherwise they will wear out fast and you'll need to replace them anyway.

Í got my Progress springs, they'll be going on stock struts for the time being. Got no choice right now. The money is going towards other mods. I'l only be doing this however just for a few months.

like everyone else said I wouldnt reccomend it. The stock struts will not last long and then you'll have to go through all the work again if you do it your self or pay the labor again to have them changed. If you do it all at once you will save yourself some sanity or money!

I would recommend strongly against it. I blew my stock rears after 5000 miles with eibachs.

I have dropzone springs on my car with a 2" drop and they have been on for 32k miles and all I get is a creak every once in a while. I had the same same springs on a set of stock shocks on my 97 maxima from 59k miles to 97k miles and they finally blew at the 97k mile point. So I have had good luck with two droped maxes on stock shocks. I say go for it if you dont mind you shocks going out a little early.

I'd advise against it...which is what I told my brother as well. I had about 40k when I put my H&R on with stock struts/shocks...the ride wouldn't settle over a bump and I think I ended up blowing a strut/shock or two. I put on the Illuminas as soon as I could and now I've replaced the H&R with Progress.

I was told by SCO here in Phoenix that it all depends on how much you drop it. I got H-Techs and they said it wont be a problem. Depends on how bad your roads are to im sure. Why pay $500 for struts if you dont have to?

The HPs are supposedly 10% stiffer than stock despite being stock "replacements".... so they are a different animal... anyways.... that being said, many people have said that they've had no problems with moderate drops on stock struts.... and many have also said that they've blown stock struts quickly on a moderate drop... so its a toss up I guess...

I've done it and my stockers blew out immediately. I wound up paying for install twice for no reason. As someone said earlier, do it right the 1st time.

I did the work myself in two hours.....if you are going to do it yourself then I would say do it but if you are goin to pay a place to put the springs on then you are wasting money on an installation.

I'll drop mine this spring (no pun intended). When you dropped them, did you need to compress the springs or were you able to remove them w/out compressing them? I helped a friend w/ a Neon once that didn't require compressing them. We did it anyway just to be on the safe side, but if it's not necessary, it would save a lot of time.

the tokico blues(hp) are 10% stiffer or set to 2f 3r on the illumina setting just like kyb are 2f 4r. the are direct replacment in fit. anyway i recently lowered my max on maxspeeds and the rear struts were shot after 45k. the had no rebound at all. the fronts were worn but not dead. if your going to do springs do it all at one. instead of paying someone twice or scraping your knukles again on the rears( they suck). when i worked for my friends speed shop i always told customers to do it all at once. some did some didnt. the ones who did the lower drops always came back a few months later. whats funny is i did groung controls on a civic with stock shocks and about close to 80k on them. he didnt want to do shocks even aftre i told him about the higher springrates they came with. well i did the job and in 2 days he came back and the 2 fronts were blown. he said he went over railroad crossing and he said he just bottomed out. so i worked oput a price cause i felt bad. sorry for the long story.

i rode on H&R's with stock struts for about a week before i couldn't take the crappy ride and got illumina's. if i hit consecutive bumps in it, the car would bounce like a ****.

Yeah, ya need a spring compressor... just rent one for a refundable deposit at an auto parts place.... well, you can do it w/o one, its just more dangerous that way...

Unlikely... but if its only a couple months, why not just wait and get the struts and springs put in together? It'll save ya time and money... and there'll be a much lower risk of blowing your stock struts...

i ran on my eibach/tokico's and then needed a smoother ride so i put back the stock shocks and been rolling on them for almost a yr w/o any issues... =)

30K+ on maxspeeds and no problems. If you do the work yourself no sense replacing good parts, let them blow unless you have the $$ to get the aftermarket struts also.

I have a set of maxspeeds that i'm just going to wait and do everything at once, i don't want to do it twice and i want the full effect all at once, also i want to wait till i get my new wheels and tires at the same time, i say wait and do it all at once, it's cheaper that way

Don't bother changing the struts unless blown, I changed my fronts because they were blown but left the rears stock 4 now. Lowered on some? eibach springs koni adjustable struts in front

i wouldnt do it..i did it with my maxima and it rode like crap. As for the tokicos, i have them now and im not overly enthused...dont get me wrong the car handles great but i wish i would have spent a few extra dollars and did the suspension right. I think tein makes a set up for the maxima and you can always add the electronic dampener when you get the dough...good luck

You have to compress them. That is the only part that suck. Have a airgun will help out a lot believe me.
