RED LEDs, and some new ICE...I own your blue lighting :)
RED LEDs, and some new ICE...I own your blue lighting :)
so....
got around to a few projects today:
1. Installed Alpine CDA-9835 deck using:
- GXE dash kit (thanks DAVE B)
- 4th-gen GXE 'pocket' -which has a door, unlike the 5th gen pocket
- PAC-ROEM-NIS2 adaptor (to keep Bose speakers for the time being)
- ISO-DIN trim ring
- Ai-net AUX input (RCA) adaptor to plug in my MP3 player
sound is great, this deck has a ton of audio adjustment, and even makes the Bose speakers sound damn good. It can also download MP3s and store them....more features than I'll ever use. Thanks to TAPOUT (Jason) for an awesome deal on it. I don't miss my Bose deck at all!
2. Finished RED LED swap on entire interior. Doors/window switches - DONE
climate control lighting - DONE. 4 LEDs shining down on the shift assembly - DONE. Also put a red LED in the pocket so I can find **** at night inside of it....
So...here are some pics:

ya just gotta be willing to try stuff, and realize that you're GONNA screw it up sometimes (my last project ended up breaking my gauge cluster and I had to get a new one $$$$)

you can order it from DAVE B (who is a parts guy at a Nissan dealer, and gives org'ers good prices)....it fits in either the top or bottom slots of the factory metal frame (that holds the Bose and climate control)......I originally had the pocket on top and the deck right above the climate control, but decided to switch them around.
As to remote...the deck has a pretty nice remote, but like all other car stereos' I've ever had with remotes....it'll probably spend most of its time in the glove box....it's not that hard to reach the stereo...no need for a remote

2. no, re-use the Bose mount screws. It's ISO-DIN (rear) mount, so you don't need any trim pieces). You can buy ISO-DIN trim pieces from most audio shops...they will know what they are...
3. when you buy theGXE pocket, it is actually ATTACHED to vents (new vents come with it, so you don't use the old ones)
4. No idea what that pocket is, but don't think it's a 5th gen....there is definitely not room for a double din opening AND a pocket......unless you get rid of the climate control, that is.

That has to be the cleanest single-DIN install i've seen in a 5th gen. The 4th gen storage compartment really looks like it belongs there, as opposed to the scoshe kit (etc.) with the open pocket. And to think that I thought double DIN recievers such as the Eclipse AVN were the only ones that look at home in the dash in place of the Bose. Great job Irish.

I was getting so frustrated with the fitting of stuff, and so zoned in doing custom Dremel work to fit all the LEDs, taking photos was far from my mind!
my advice, find a busted climate control module at a junkyard, take it apart, and start experimenting. That's what I did....also read up on how LEDs work before you start....pretty simple once it "clicks" in your brain, but confusing when you first start playing with LEDs....
I just reinstalled my 9835 after buying a GXE kit to replace the ugly Metra one. I'm really happy with it except for the gap below the HU, through which you can actually see wires, etc. behind the stereo. I have to take the vents back off and take off the little Alpine cage pins on the sides, like I see Josh already did, but after that, it will just be that gap at the bottom that bugs me.
Metra (before):
GXE kit (after) (this was taken during the rest of my system install):

EDIT: Josh, not sure if you knew this, but if you hit the SRC/PWR button when in the multi-color illumintation settings, you can change ALL of the other buttons from green to orange, just to match the red a little better.
Oh yeah, and shut off that damn Media X-Pander, it kills the music! Hehe.

Yeah, I took it out and figured out to take the cage pins off. I also got a ISO-DIN trim piece that sits on top of the alpine face to close that gap. PM me your address, and I'll send you one. The pack I bought had 2 in it, but I broke one. A dab of superglue will fix it, and it's yours for free if you want it.
thanks for the advice on the buttons, i'll have to try it out!
