Drying your Machine
It used to be cotton towels. Lots of them...sort of like that scene in The Matrix, where Neo and Trinity are all loaded up with guns...only its towels.
Now I use the California water blade, and one big cotton towel, and get done in half the time.

I use a synthetic Chamois to "BLOT" the entire car dry, turning it and wringing it out often. I DO NOT wipe this on the car AT ALL. When the car is almost 100% dry, I get out the 100% cotton Martha Stewart bath towels (for the car ONLY) and gently blot the rest of the car dry. Yeah, I look like a nutjob, but the car looks great afterward.
I thought I was the only one

But I have to admit those towels do a good job, barnone.
warning about Chamois
my uncle let me in on somethin about chamois.. he says not to use them because little pebbles can get caught in the material and you won't know it and while drying the car, the pebble will scratch the car up.. so be careful
jeff, that can also happen with any kind of towel
i work at a detail shop and we use synthetic shammies (thats how i spell it)...we had a leather one a long time ago until we found out that leather shammies are pretty bad for the paint and can scratch it up fairly easily...i've heard really good things about the cali water blade but haven't tried it myself yet...using cotton towels takes 10 times longer and you get the same result...just shammie the car down, clean the windows with glass cleaner, clean the rims with the same glass cleaner, get some tire shine, and vaccuum your car (that is a basic service wash for us)...i'm sure everyone has their own opinions on what is better...just try it out for yourself...but be sure not to use a leather shammie and i've heard about 2 different types of 100% cotton towels...one type can be bad for the paint
oh, by the way, at the detail shop, we don't use the type of towel that you use in your bathroom for the paint, we use cloth diapers...bath towels will scratch up the paint even if they are 100% cotton...the good type of 100% cotton is the t-shirt type...without all of the little cotton pieces sticking out of it

Absorber
I use the absorber and then follow up w/ a cotton towel. Panel by panel until done! The towel is cut into 6 pieces from original size and makes moving around easier. I wash towels and Absorber seperate weekly and with little to no Fabric Softner. Martha Stewart told me that softner makes towels have less ability to contain water
