BRAKE QUESTION..WHO can help?

I went to NTB the other day to get my summer wheels put on. They said my pads are thin and will last 5K miles or so. He also said that the rotors are scratched and I should replace them. Do I really need to replace them or should i just resurface them. im gonna have my car for a minimum of another 40K more miles so i dont wanna pay 100 dollars for resurficing and still have to replace them in 10K miles. I dk what to do.. Help me out guys. I want to get pads and rotors(if i have to) that will last me the whole 40k...i DONT need some proformance stuff...I think i should get ceramic(last longest) and brembo blanks(also last longest, If i have to)....What are the best brand ceramics?Thanks..IS that GD I saw anygood?....i have an 03 SE with 45K mils right now. thanks guys

i would not waste the money on resurfacing. the chances are good they will warp before the 40k you want to keep the car. cutting/resurfacing only increases the chances of warping since there is less material to deal with the same amount of heat. i would go with brembo blanks and hawk pads. that way it will be budget minded, low dusting, hardly if any noise and perhaps a little better braking than oem. make sure they do not overtorque the wheels after the brake job which can help contribute to warpage as well.

i wouldnt waste money on resurfacing either, just upgrade either to brembo blanks or irotors, i have the irotor rotors with greenstuff pads and ohhh man does my car stop!

$100 to resurface? ****, you must have some scammers up that way. They resurface rotors for $8 around here if you go to the right place and haggle with them a little....

I'd get them resurfaced. That's what I always do until they reach their minimum thickness. I've never had any problems.

no man resurface and new pads, ull always be better off, just remember when u resurface they tend to crack and warp a hell of alot easier.

I guess prior to giving advice, a few questions come to mind like:

1. How many miles do you have on your current brake setup?
2. Have you previously had your rotors turned? (assuming not from your post)
3. Are or do your rotors "feel" warped?

If you have not had them turned previously and they are not currently warped, I'd go that route first with new pads. I suggest getting OEM pads (I've been very happy with the two sets I've used).

Good luck.

I'm kinda in the same boat, I need to replace my brakes too. I've got an order coming in for hawk brake pads and race concept rotors. I was a little shaky on the rotors, but they are made in the USA, cross driled and slotted, theiy are silver zinc coated, they are exact OE size, and they meet all the ISO machine requirements. $150 for all four rotors on my 2k2 maxima se. Taking a chance on them, but they look solid in all the pictures. I'll let you guys know what up with them when I get them on.

When my rotors warped, I replaced them with slotted Brembo blanks from the org GD. The lasted almost 32K miles. They are now warped again, and can't be turned. Just the fronts though. The rears still have the factory pads and plenty ofmeat left on them. The fronts are just too small in the 01' forthe girth of our cars. I also have the EBC green stuff pads on the front. I will stress to you that you will only get between 15 and 20K miles out of those pads. They work like a champ, but ware out very quickly. I say just resurface them until the can't be and replace the pads.

Also, I was intimidated with a brake job when I first got my car. It really is very easy once you look at it. I say save your money. Take the rotors to a shop that can resurface them and replace them yourself. JMO

i got 45K miles, i bought the car with 24 and made the dealer change all 4 rotors and pads...Not sure if he did becuase I was an idiot and never asked them to do a work order so they might of just put on new pads...Anyway im gonna resurface and turn the rotors and put on new pads. A friend of mine can get me akebono pro ceramic pads for 100 (all 4). Its a decent deal. Any comments on the pads and or price? Thanks for all your help...About doing it myself, I would rather spend 100 bucks then screw somthing as important as brakes up.

If they're not warped leave them alone and just replace the pads. One of the most common rip-offs by service places is to show you the circumferential grooves on your rotors and tell you they need resurfacing - they don't!
