What Are U Burning

With Gas as high as it is( $2.38 per gallon in Memphis for premium), I was just checking to see if I was the only person that had to drop down to from 93 to 89, and if so has anyone had any problems. Also, do you think that this is a good idea.

nope, never dropping down. still using premium fuel @ 2.29 per gallon in NC. i don't think it would be a good idea coz then you're playing showdown with your knock sensor. i might be wrong.

dumb idea. Try to cut down one donut per week, to cover up your extra gas costs.

No way! The difference between premium and regular is about $0.2/gal here, or about $3 per fill-up. Just skip dessert and your VQ and your waistline will thank you.

Still using 93. I drove to GA and back on Friday and saw gas as low as $2.24 and as high as $2.48 depending on the area. Its $2.31 here (NE NC) and $2.18 (lowest price around) where I work for 93 and I hope it doesn't get a lot higher. Even if it does, I'll stay with 93. I've seen folks on here claiming as much as a 15% drop in mpg using 87 vs 93 and with the price of each within 20 cents, you're wasting money NOT using it, imho.

I have factored out that it will be cheaper for me to buy premuim until gas hits 2.55 a gallon based on MPG savings. But after gas gets that high anyway does it really matter??

Plus my timing is advanced so Premium it is unless i want a new engine which will cost more than gas lol

I still use 93 even though the gas prices really are ridiculous. Don't tell me about how much better our prices are than prices in other parts of the world. I already know that. That's why I don't live in any of those places.

Whenever I used to see an MPG thread, I would say that it hurts to fill my Maxima up with premium fuel, but her comfortable amenities and nice performance are worth it. In the past few weeks, my attitude has started to change. Leather and power be damned. I want my QG18DE-powered Sentra back.

you can't really save that much going from 93 ot 89 can you? Nothing significant anyways.

I just filled up 16 gallons at 2.67/gal for 91 crap-tane here in CA

I'm in Memphis too and it's rediculous. I know we aren't being charged the most, but damn. My friend's dad owns a gas station in Byhalia so I either ride around with him or try to get my gas for free from him.

if you can't even afford recommended gas for Maximas, you don't deserve one.

93 octane here at 2.29, I get fairly decent gas mileage still. Once gas hits over 3 bux I might consider getting a Insight for my daily driver. For now I will enjoy my VQ and its sound as its going to redline every day.

I can't believe Jersey gas prices are cheaper then other states. 2.08 a gallon for 93-grade at the nearby HESS station.

Yeah, right. I’ve deluded myself into thinking that before. Being raised on a diet of 4cyl. econoboxes before my Max, red flags would go up if my mileage ever fell below 27mpg. Every so often, I go test drive lesser cars thinking that the trade offs wouldn’t be so bad, but I just come right back with a greater appreciation of my Max. The rear beam, wide turning radius, and thirst for premium don’t bother me anymore. I’m just glad I don’t have to suffer in an inferior car. I like getting coddled in leather and power. I’m on vacation this week with a rental. Man, I can’t wait to get back to my Max. I tried to beat a red light this afternoon. Punched the gas, but the engine made more noise than progress. Had to hit the brakes instead. And everything inside just gives off cheap econobox vibes.

ok now. you guys dont all attack me at once. im about to ask the most newb question ever asked on this forum. Im only 17 so hopefully you understand.

When you guys say your car may experience PINGING, what do you exactly mean by that. I mean, what is it supposed to feel like?? and also when you guys say rough idle, do you mean the car vibrates a little while in park????

sorry for such dumb questions

Whoa Nelly, what's this about skipping Krispy Kremes? Never! My rule of thumb is if your weight in lbs / 100 is less than a gallon of premium gas, all is well. See: gas goes up means you should eat more Dunkin Donuts (that's a bone to you Pats and Red Sox fans). FYI I'm still putting in 91 octane @ about $2.25 per

I definitely love my Maxima. It's just that the reality of 30+ MPG on regular vs 20 MPG on premium sometimes means I have to skip more than just dessert. Sometimes it means skipping a couple of meals a day during the week after I buy a tank of gas.

A few people might be using low grade fuel, but most of us poor bums are still finding ways to buy 93. That doesn't mean we have to like it.

I'm not a cheapskate when it comes to my car. I buy her synthetic oil and change it every 3000 miles when I can. When I have to, I'll let her go to 5000 miles, but no longer than that. I also try to keep her clean. I have more cleaning and care products for my Maxima than I've ever owned for myself. I guess the reason why I'm worried about gas prices is that I've got so many other expenses, both related and non-related to my Maxima. She needs new brake rotors and pads soon. Her Nitto NT450s don't have much tread left. I'm trying to find bargains on parts, and I plan on doing the labor myself or with the help of local Org members. I'm also still making payments on her, so that requires me to have full insurance.

Fortunately, this semester is over half way over, and I can sell my books soon to get some quick cash. I'll also be working more over the summer. Bigger paychecks plus my upcoming tax return should cover some of what must be done.

At least you have 93 octane to make it worthwhile. Here in CA we've got crap 91 Octane since the 'gas crunch'. Midgrade dropped to 88.5 at some stations for a short time. *****es...

Funny... didn't ur sig have a Bush/Cheney sticker on it??? Anyway, I used 89 for one fill up and the Maxipad started crying... so never again. It sucks, but that's life. Maybe Nissan will come out with a hybrid Maxima and we can all be on 93 again.

93. I will not go down in grade no matter what the price. I just skip lunch one day every other week to make up for it.

My timing is advanced so I have no choice but to stay with premium. It's running about $2.28 ish here in NH. I find myself being a little less enthusiastic with the go pedal, skipping gears on upshifts, coasting on big hills, and short shifting just to save a buck or 2. I know it's probably really not saving me much, but atleast my mind thinks so at the time.

Gas up here in chicago about $2.38 last time i filled up, and it makes a difference if drive premium now switch to the lower grade and you should feel you car become more sluggish, remmember though try to burn of most the premium your running now before dropping to lower grade, i always fill up with premium from shell, i think this is best idea to just stick with one gas company, engine gets used to it. I ran mobil premium for like 3 weeks and car felt sluggish, and hasitent<--- not sure if thats a word or not

thats just my opinion, try it out and see

When I started driving, premium was only $0.90/gallon here in Georgia. Regular got down to $0.70/gallon. I remember hunting for lower prices when the gas hit $1.30/gallon for regular back when I drove my Sentra.

How I miss those days.

I'm sticking to 92/93 octane until it gets to about $5.00 a gallon. Then I'll give them a chance to lower the price before I buy my next tank of 92/93 octane. I'll buy premium until I go broke. Only the best for my hog. I have never run anything less than 92 in any of my 3 Maxes.
