Gas Mileage

I was wondering how many miles per gallon everyone gets out of their Maximas. I use 93 octane and am not sure if I should be unhappy about getting an average of 18-19 mpg. I think the info on the car when I bought it showed that it should be closer to 27mpg. Most of my driving is not highway.

20 in the city isn't too bad, but you should get at least 27 on the highway I would think.

I get a constant 18.33 or so Miles per gallon on my 2000 GLE. Most of that is not highway driving, but with highway driving, I still only get like 20-22.

I get about 17-18mpg all city and very short trips (less than 4 miles)......if I thrown in a little highway....it goes up to like 19-20mpg.....I have never done an ALL HIGHWAY tank before...but I have done a 120 mile trip once....and my needle was still near the 3/4th mark...and my DTE (distance to empty) read approx 325 iirc.....this indicates I get good gas mileage on the highway....but not in the city...

This one time....I got approx 18mpg on a tankful....but the weird thing is...that tank I used up....I raced at my local track, raced on the streets the night before, and used the A/c during the day......I was very suprised to get 18mpg....I was expecting alot lower since I ran so many times....and when I race, I don't mess around....I peg the tach needle as high as I can without hitting the limiter....none of that short-shifting bullsh!t....

Is anybody else getting such crappy Highway mileage? What could be the cause of such bad mileage? I use 93 octane, and have an appointment to get my fuel injectors cleaned and my transimission fluid changed.

398.7 miles to my last tank. that was at 16.2 gallons... i usually drive about 180 highway and 200 or more in the city every tank, this one averaged somewhere about 23mpg. and i NEVER seem to be able to fill up to the 18.5 gallon capacity, and i ran on the E light for about 50 miles on this tank. how long can i go without filling up after that light comes on?

I just got back from filling up my tank....check out this scenario....

305 miles/16gallons flat = 19.0mpg.....not bad if u ask me....from this tankful...I'd say 35-40% was highway cruising at 80mph....using the a/c here and there...then the rest was all city with many many short trips.....also I raced my friend's V6 accord like 7 times during that tank....2 were from a stop....and the rest was from a 60-100mph roll.....

19mpg with those conditions were not bad if u ask me.....i would have thought my races would have ate my gas up...lol

I get around 14mpg. Almost all of my driving is city and since NYC has so much traffic and lights i really cant complain. Several things i did within the month in which i still got 14mpg.
1)New tires all around 36psi.
2)Wheel Balanced, and wheel alignment
3)new air filter
4)Mobil 1 fully synthetic motor oil and oil filter

Still getting under 16mpg.

Rip ....the reccomended Tire pressure is 32 all the way around if you open the middle console it says on there that mite be killing your MPG also maybe your MAF

32 is for a comfortable ride. When you increase your tire psi not only is it better for handling, but it actually INCREASES your mpg. There is nothing wrong with the car im just simply stating that driving around nyc where you have to stop atleast once every 15seconds kills your mpg. I have never gotten more then 17mpg in the city. The EPA 20mpg system is outdated and doesnt apply to heavily congested areas such as NYC. I always use 93 mobil octane and i guess if you get crappy milage it might not be your car but the conditions your vechile is driven in.

OK, so are you guys worried at all about these mileages? I currently drive a 2.2 4cyl. and with the rising gas prices it seems like I'm going against my common sense to get a 6cyl. This is factoring out all desires for power, torque, etc. and indifference due to some extra cash in the pocket. But then again, there isn't a car that looks like the max ....

Well this weekend i went to vegas, about 280 miles, and i made it there barely, gas light came on next day, but this was with 5 people in the car, 5 suit cases in the trunk, and a crusing speed of 80-100mph.

is 15mpg about right???

Mine was getting horrible even on the highway i was getting like 22mpg. Pulled my plugs out and changed them and now i am getting over 30 on the highway using cruise control heavily. For some reason i dont think the mpg gause on my car is anywhere near correct. I was doing 80 in 6th gear on cruise, and reset the mpg gauge and when it came back,it said 40.3 and then went up to 44.6 a couple seconds later. If only it was true.

Haha, that's like hybrid numbers! Anyway, I heard your mpg drops after you peak at like 55 or 60. Oh well

I was getting about 16 combined (driving like a snail) and I reset my ECU and started getting 26 MPG with more power. After a 2-3 weeks I was back to 16 MPG and no power. Figure that one out!

I have a 2000 GLE and I suspect I have a bad MAF due to poor low end power, rotten egg smell at times, and I get about 14 mpg in the city. But I do drive 22 miles a day right throught the stop and go traffic of Chicago.

My 2000 SE gets 20-23 all city driving, 24-26 mixed and 27-29 all highway. I don't have any modifications other than a K&N filter dropped into the factory intake. The car has 74k miles, I use only full synthetic oil and name brand 93 octane (usually Chevron or Amoco).

I probably don't have as much stop and go in my city of about 175k people, but it gets hotter here than NY or Chicago, so I'm running the AC about 9 months out of the year.
