Is your 5th gen rusting yet?

yeah so i washed my car yesterday and i noticed a half dozen small rust bubbles forming. there is one on the front of the hood where it goes down between the headlight and the grill. i popped the hood and noticed the underneath is starting to bublle up. I also noticed a spot under the driver side door handle, under the driver side rear door handle, and 2 dots on the driver side rear door. Also on the driver side rear door around the child safety switch and a dot below a little stopper or something.

I guess it is a 5 year old car, but underneath the car and everything still looks great. My rear window tracks are rusted too, though they were like that when I got the car last year. I am gonna give my body shop a call and see if they can touch it up before it starts to get worse.

just wondering if anyone else is getting rust yet. damn northern ohio winters!

Rust in various parts of the underbody (noticed a lot of it on the mating surfaces of the engine mount crossmember, the engine mount welds, etc.)
A little around the trunk area, in the engine bay... etc.

is it really under warranty? right behind the passenger door there are paint chips that have rust showing through. I've always lived in the desert but the three years in Indiana really beat up the car.

It probably won't be covered. Surface corrosion is covered by the basic (36k mi) warranty. The perforation warranty is 5y/unlimited, but Nissan defines it as a hole right through the sheet metal.

No rust on my 95SE. I had it Diamond coated, rustproofed and leather protected before I picked it up - a good investment in my view. The car isn't driven very much in ice and snow and I try to get it cleaned up ASAP after roads have been salted, which isn't often as I live at the Coast. It helps to have the undercarriage and wheel wells cleaned periodcially in the winter, along with the rest of the car.

I've observed rust on mine. Any rust that i observed on my car (around the door edges, trunk edges, etc.) i sanded the rusted part, primered it, and painted with touch-up paint and clearcoat, good as new..that is until other ones pops up.

My 01 Max has no rust. I drove it one winter in Canadian snowbelt and rest in Europe. I regularly check for stone chips and every spring clean and spray rusty undercarriage parts.

I would check also the underside of the rear side panels where they meet with the rear bumper. Nature can get to it there....also the frame of the trunk, where the water is channeled from the top to the bottom..But these are half a decade old cars so....

Oh, I wonder if the holes for where the spoiler is attached is sealed enough so water can't get in....

This is why I love living in Georgia. I could drive around for a year with deep, exposed scratches all the way to the bare metal, and I wouldn't get a spot of rust.

Typically rust warranties are specifically a "rust through" warranty. There is a big difference.
