It was a Fox Body, and man it was loud. But it also sounded different not sure why. When accerating it had a tone, more of a higher pitch from its engine, sounded mean, but not sure what that was.....it was real smooth. Anyhow, we lined up at a light, no one reved. I was like hmm, he had racing stickers on it. So once the light went green, I took off a little harder than normal, so did he, then all of a sudden I heard him hit it, I was like ****, floored, 1st, 1/2 a car, 2nd 1 car length, then in 3rd he actually started pulling closer then by the time I hit 5500 I started pulling again on him, and we let off. LOL.....

You never know what you're gonna get with a Stang. It could either be a high 15 second car or a 10 second car. All Stangs sound incredible with a set of mufflers. Flowmasters make for a very deep sound where as Super Turbos give it almost a banshee wail. I've beat up on a few 5.0/4.6s at the track where I thought I was gonna get smoked. Of course there were those other 20 times where they finished by the time I at the 1/8th mile I know my place.

The stock ET numbers for the last few GT Stangs are something like this:

1987-1993 5sp-14.5sec Auto-15.3sec
1994-1998 5sp-14.9sec Auto-15.7sec
1999-2001 5sp-14.1sec Auto-14.5sec

Once the mods begin, you never know what you're gonna run up against! Next Spring I plan to add a supercharger to mine which will give me 425+hp(flywheel), lowering my ET down to the low 12s. Not bad for just over $3 grand. I would have done this 2 months ago if I hadn't spent the money on this SE.

Life is full of choices.

5.0's are unpredictable

My friend has a 83 Thunderbird which has a 5.0 w/ 130-140hp. Well anyways, he's building a junkyard car. Just about everything is from the junkyard. He is following some guys website. That guy w/ the website is running 11-12's(one of those) just for under or around 3k on street tires.

Point being is that 5.0 engine parts are dirt cheap. My friend got his exhaust for $50, headers and everything. And are so easy to make fast. So watch out for 5.0's.

Here at RiverCity raceway, 5.0's are everywhere and are by far the most common car. and some are pretty damn fast.

I was driving alongside a SVT Mustang but I didn't race him. Too many cops down the road I was on. How do they match up to a stock and SC'ed Max?

Depends on the year.

A 99+ Cobra bone stock runs a 13.9 1/4mi. With about $1k in mods (gears, pulleys, x-pipe), that number can be dropped to 13.2 in the 1/4. Add 2-3 tenths for a 96-98 Cobra.

I know a naturally aspirated Max, even with mods, will not be able to stand up to anything in the 13's, including 99+ GT's and any Cobra. It would be a good race for a supercharged 5sp 5th gen Max, however.

At least you smoked one. I got smoked like a cigar sunday night by a GT Stang. Ah well, I'll take yours a sort of a "collective" kill list for all of us!

On my last trip to the track, I lined up next to a 5.0... With slicks. Much to the delight of the crowd, this guy proceeded to do a long, smokey burnout.

As always, I drove around the water box, and I did not do a burnout. I wasn't a crowd-pleaser at that point. Know what I mean...?

As we both approached the starting line to stage, I thought to myself, "Oh, man, I'm about to get my a$$ waxed good!"
But much to my surprise, I beat him off the line and pulled on him badly all the way down the track. I ended up beating him by over 1/2 second. You just never can tell...
