Looking for some advice

Hey guys, I have searched on these topics before but I can't seem to find some of the things I want answered. I have a couple quick questions I would like to ask.

First, I just bought my 2000 GLE 2 months ago and am pretty impressed, I had some issues at first but all that is fixed. It has 65k miles on it and I was wondering it changing the plugs would benefit me?

Second, Could someone point me in the direction of a TB cleaning thread or How-to? I have had the maf replaced but it still feels like there is a dead spot in the accel curve and I am sure the TB is plenty dirty. I have never really felt very comfortable in the engine bay and I wanted to know if its going to be something I could do myself in a simple manner.

Third, I am looking at getting an exhaust system but have always hated the ricey sound you get from hondas and other little 4bangers. I realize that the VQ30 quite a bit bigger then that of engine from a civic but I am afraid that if I where to get a cat-back or something of the sort it would be ricey. What cat-back would fit me for a deeper tone? I dont even care about how loud it is, stock is fine but I wanted tp extend my performance gain after I get my ypipe. I am also wondering if anybody out there it an auto 5gen would like to share their opinion on a exhuast system. Maybe show me some links to some drive bys or something with auto trannys.

Fourth, How much money and time would it take the swap from my auto tranny to a manual from the same year. I have a friend turbo charging a KA24E in his 240 so we have had some engine pulling experiance but I am wondering if this is even feasible or if I should ask someone else to do it.

I know this seems like a lot of stuff but I guess if anyone wants to answer they can. Thank you very much

Congrats on the car first off. From your first question, I'm thinking your last one may be a little over the level of experience you may currently possess. If your friend can help with the TB cleaning, that would be a good way to learn that process. In terms of exhaust, I've been quite pleased with my Cattman www.cattman.com setup as well as many other members on this forum. Frankencar www.frankencar.com also may be a good option for what you are mentioning for exhaust requirements.

Good luck with your mods, and welcome to the .org

Also, if you have not done so, check out the FAQ's and the Stickies - some great information listed in those.

There are more out there... try the Google/Yahoo search using the instructions posted in the Stickies...

If ya want loud but not ricey, check out the Cattman and the Mossy... they're almost identical. I personally think the GReddy Evo isn't ricey, but hey, I'm probably the only one around here I have a Frankencar cat-back on right now and I like it... its def the quietest one out there other than stock... but its actually too quiet for me, even with my y-pipe. In terms of flow, they are all 2.5" piping, with the Frankencar muffler possibly slightly more restrictive due to the dampening (which is how they keep the noise down) but I think its only a difference of 1-2 whp. The again, considering that cat-backs only give us about 5 whp, that is significant if every bit of power counts for ya. Frankencar's website has pictures of a cutaway of the muffler, check that out if it concerns you.

I think Ammi is looking to sell his GReddy SP cat-back, maybe get in touch with him about that... it looks nicer and sounds better than the Evo, IMO...

As for sound clips, Frankencar's website has some of the exhaust in terms of (i) cat-back as the only mod and (ii) cat-back with Hotshot headers. BlackbirdVQ has a thread around here somewhere with clips of his Mossy cat-back with Hotshot headers. I have a clip of the Cattman cat-back with stock everything else that CharlieJag sent me, PM me your email address and I can send it if ya want. They're not all of driveby's, but its better than nothing.

Btw, I don't think an exhaust would sound different on an auto, so I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. The only time it might matter is if you have an exhaust that drones a lot up till 2500 rpms (GReddy EVO) and you can't adapt your shifting to minimize that, if it annoys you of course. I had it and I just made sure to cruise in a gear over 2500 when I didn't wanna hear the drone.

I don't know much about horns, but did ya try swapping out the horn fuse with another one that works to see if that helps?

Also, there are tons of threads about horns out there, so even if ya can't start a new thread, you could search for one of those and then post there instead of whoring this guy's exhaust thread. Not to be the bad guy here, but to be considerate to the thread starter, we should keep this on track.

Here's some as a start:

I use the Google/Yahoo search methods all the time. I like the Google one the most. Still, both methods suck big sweaty monkey ***** compared to the built-in forum search function. It's definitely an incentive to donate.

Why I bring the sound up is that auto's rev differently then a manual. When you start you might just press the gas and the rpms shoot up to like 2k and just barely move until the shift. That is the only difference I would make, I dont have any experiance with exhausts on auto's but I just think it might sound kinda wierd. That is why I wanted some oppinions on it.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying... could ya possibly rephrase that?

I still doubt that there are any differences in the way exhausts sound on autos compared to manuals, apart from what I posted about the drone. Anyone with an auto wanna give us a hand here?
