o2 sensor HELP

got a ses light on yesterday, took it to Autozone to have it read and they said the bank 1 sensor/catalyst came up. he reset the light for me so its off, my question is can i still drive it like this for a bit? I am struggling right now with many other things condo, broken laptop, etc so am trying to hold off but will it still be ok to drive if it is the o2 sensor? i want to just wait until the light comes on again if possble. any help would be awesome , thanks!

I drove with the SES on in my Pathfinder throwing an o2 sensor code for almost 2 months while I waited for my replacement to come in. As long as the car is running fine it shouldn't hurt anything. I didn't notice the pathy driving any differently at least.

BTW if you are interested I can get you a Bosch Premium O2 sensor for probably much cheaper than the dealer wants and its probably the same exact sensor, at least on my Pathy the sensor I pulled off the truck was exactly the same as the Bosch replacement I got. Just to let you know, I see you are from Springfield, and my dad owns West Springfield Auto Parts right over the bridge so you could just pick it up. Let me know and I can try and hook u up.

What was the code? Because I just worked on a 2001 Maxima and it had the code P0171B which was Front sensor Bank 1 Too lean. Alldata said that the O2 sensor could be bad, intake leak, bad MAF, and etc. With the car I worked on it was the MAF. Same thing happened to my car like a year ago, code pointed to the O2 sensor and it was actually the MAF sensor.

Bad o2 sensor doesn't do any harm (except you may have slightly higher mileages), but you may need to fix it before your next exhaust gas test.

My rear O2 sensor went bad as well. Being an owner of multiple Toyotas, I am extremely disappointed with the quality of Nissan. I had to replace the air flow sensor just a few days ago before this happening.

Can somebody tell me where I can purchase the O2 sensor? Most of the sites in the FAQ are no longer valid.

Thanks.

I got my light on a few times, my uncle told me to just reset it and drive on until the ligth comes back persistantly, that way you can test to make sure you have a bad, whatever O2 or MAF sensor...right now I have an intermitted problem. Its a pain but its working...when the light is on, the engine will run a little lean or rich depending on your particualr issue, on mine is lean, so its running rich, bad for mileage.

Chucky.

Yeah, I had my CEL cleared 3 or 4 times and the light kept coming back on with the same code. Like everyone else said you might get some worse gas mileage from it but my Pathy didn't seem to experience any difference in mileage..... Its been like 2 weeks since installing the new sensor on mine and the light hasnt been back....

I was getting the code for the rear oxyzen sensor and it kept coming back few times after reset in 2000 SE. I have changed the MAF and have not seen it in about a week now.

Stalling, sluggish, no high end power......whats up??? HELP!!!

just got a black 2k1 MAX SE 20th anv. MT

i installed a Weapon R Secret Weapon intake with a MARA muffler. the first ride from the garage-home was awesome, great power improvement, great sound. then after a few days, my check engine light turned on. it showed two codes

P0171---- running lean (bank1)
po174----running lean (bank2)

then the car started to lose power at high rpm, around 4500-5000 ( and its not the Vais, i checked it) ... so i reset the ECU and even after about a week still same ****. on top of it the car is now stalling at every stop light.. i even cleaned my throttle body and still nothing. whats my problem......
-MAF?
-coils?
should i put the stock intake back?? i was thinking about doing the Feul cut TSB.. by the way do they charge for TSB's or are they free??

any help is appreciate

can you elaborate more on this? what is the exact code that showed up on the OBD II scanner? Bank 1 simply means the rear 3 cylinders (near the firewall).....but it should say something after that...i.e. Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor High Voltage etc etc.....

if it is the DOWNSTREAM o2 sensors....which is always sensor 2 (doesn't matter which bank)....that means this oxygen sensor only moniters catalytic converter efficiency.....if it is UPSTREAM o2 sensors which is sensor 1...these are the o2's that moniter a/f ratios......performance/fuel economy will not be affected if DOWNSTREAM o2's blow out.....one of my downstream o2 sensors blew out a few weeks back....but I don't mind becuz it doesn't effect performance....besides i'm going to buy a simulator to fix this problem anyway

Thanks man, are all o2 sensors the same? If I picked one up from your dads shop for say bank 1, would it still work if it was bank 2? sorry i am very unfamilar with the o2 sensors so that might sound stupid but im sure you get what im sayin...because they gave me like 6 different prices at autozone depending on which o2 sensor it was...

Each sensor will be a different part number so bank 1 will only work with bank 1, etc. unless you wanted to go with a universal sensor which will be cheaper but won't come with the harness so you will have to splice the wires from the old harness.

If you get the Nissan p/n for the o2 sensor you need I can cross it to a Bosch number and get you pricing and availability if you are interested.

Thanks!

... I know this thread is old BUT...I have had the light come on persistently as well, it came on for a few days, then went back off, now it's on again. Not sure the exact code but it did concern getting an o2 sensor, the AUTOZONE tech asked me if I was running an aftermarker high flow cat, which I am, he said then more than likely the o2 sensor is just fine b/c they usually affect the original ECU variations on air intake/outake... BTW I am getting around 425 miles to a tank (before the light, only 360ish) and about half of those are city, and half, highway... I am just wondering since my mileage is so high and I am in TN where they do not do inspections should I go ahead and get the sensors because the SES light is very bothersome. And DaveB did say there is no necessary need for an ECU update, which would save a couple hundred dollars
