Dead Battery

So my battery died on me today. I got it replaced without too much off a hassel but I was wondering if people here think it went prematurely. My car is less than 5 yrs old with about 78k kms. I live in a cold climate which I know can effect battery life.

What are your thoughts?

I've wondered about this. Got 44k on my 2k Maxima (stock battery). Even brought it to be checked but no sign of it going, yet.

My car won't start if I leave the key in the ON postition while pumping gas. So less than 5 minutes of radio without the car running completely drains it Damn 2400 watt amp.

Anyone know a good place to buy a high output alternator for a good price?

I thought the stock battery was a zero-maintenance battery.

I don;t think all of them are. If yours has the "green eye" it is a maint free, if it has a water level on the side and caps on top (like mine) you can add water.

Unfortunately I don't remember what it looked like. I kind of assumed most cars built after 1990 had zero maintenance batteries.

Anyway, I got myself a cheap Canadian Tire battery. The new battery only has to last me until the fall when I buy a new car so I didn't want to drop a lot of money on it. It's amazing how quickly my car starts up now. I barely have to touch the key and the engine roars to life.

i just replaced mine on 2k2, 78k. bad cell. CAA came installed on the spot..pretty good deal actually, cheaper than canadian tire. it would explain why it would run fine running down the highway then feel like a cylinder or two was missfiring..probably cause they were. these cars sure are mighty dependant on a good electrical system.

All of our Nissan cars came with batterys that required adding distilled water ever 6-8 months. '95 Max, '00 I30 and our '03 Murano.

If you don't add water, it will dry out and die. My 2000 I30 battery is 5 years old now and still works fine, even during our NJ winters.

Wow. Did not know that. It's not even part of the recommended servicing in the manual. Could have saved myself a few bucks and time if I'd know. Oh well, live and learn.

Thanks for pointing this out. I am still on my original battery, but the level is on the low mark. Guess it is time to fill up.
