Random Stalling... I need some help!!!

Here is whats going on. When i am on the highway or moving fast and applying the brake or just coasting everyonce and a while my max will just stall while i am moving. It happened before i brought it to a shop and they cleaned something i didnt get a work order or pick up the car myself so i dont know. It was fine for a while but its happening again like 3 times in the last 2 days. Has this happened to anyone or have you heard of this? What do i do?!

I had the same problem, but wasn't in town when the repair was done. The dealer can fix it for about $100, although you may be able to fix it much more cheeply yourself. Sorry I'm not better informed.

Yeah,
Happens to every 5th gen owner sooner or later. Two causes(that are most common) Dirty throttle body, which is every easy to clean and or bad MAF sensor. Both will cause this problem.

Well, mine is doing close to the same thing. Intermittently, when I'm stopped at a light, the RPM's will drop down to about 350-400 and the car will catch itself and pop back up to about 600. I have not had the Fuel Cut TSB as far as I know (bought the car June 28th, 2001), nor have I ever cleaned my TB and I'm at roughly 43, 510 miles. The stalling link and the other link inside that didn't really say how to dissassemble the TB and clean it (other than the part about buying TB cleaner....can anyone enlighten me so I can do this and fix the problem (I hope)?

My car was doing the same as your, dipping below 400, and then catching it's self; AT FIRST. The longer this went, the worse it got untill I was stalling damn near every time I stoped. I took a couple of hours on a saterday(more then enough time) and cleaned out the TB. My car has not stalled, or even dipped in four months. The throttle body cleaner has instructions on how to clean the TB, that link was primarly to show every one how to "GET" to the TB. Once you have everything apart, just follow the instructions on the can.

P.S. you don't have to completely remove everything, I loosened the clamps that conected the TB to the Black thing(I forget what it called) , then remove my MAF sensor. This gave me enough Room move to pull every thing away form the TB safely and clean it out.

I have 2000 SE and it was stalling after warm up while at idle. TB cleaning did not help. MAF made all the difference. Have not seen the problem in more than a week now.

From the pics on that Motorvate site, it's hard to believe that a little dirt like that would cause a bad idle....how much is it for the MAF's now (for a 2k1) and do you HAVE to get the ECU reprogram to go w/ it or is it ok just to stick in a new one?
