NOOB question- Difference in gauges and console cover

I just purchased a 2000 SE and I have a couple of probably stupid questions.

First, my car has the white face gauges and I have seen (pictures of) some 2000 SE's that have the black face gauges. Exactly what models came with the white face gauges and when did they go to black?

Also my car has the woodgrain shift console cover that goes around the shifter, lighter, ashtray etc. I think all the SE's I have seen pictures of have a dark grey shift console cover. I am pretty sure the GLE's have the woodgrain trim but would an SE have it from the factory and did this change any year during 5th gen?

Thanks in advance for any help

Pretty sure only SEs, and ALL SEs, had white face guages.

That's weird about the shifter trim. Do the window and lock button trims (on the doors) have wood grain, too? If not, I'd say the shifter trim was added by the previous owner. If so, maybe you have a GLE that somebody "converted" to an SE.

The window and door lock trims are NOT woodgrain. Also the original window sticker with VIN on it were in the owners manual booklet so I know it is an SE. So maybe the previous owner did switch it to the woodgrain but I don't know why because it doesn't go with anything else in the car.

Yeah, that's weird.

Guess you could always hit up a junkyard or check out the classifieds forum for a replacement shifter trim. It's easy enough to replace, and probably wouldn't run you more than $30 or $40.

I have a shifter console from a 2000 for sale (the boot on it is from a 2002)
$35 shipped and it's yours...the console came with my car and is in good shape, with one small scratch. The boot is brand new. Anyways, pm me if interested....

I see why now the previous owner may have changed it out. The woodgrain one is flat on the back behind the shifter. The car has a rear view camera and there is a rocker switch mounted there that turns it on and off. I don't know how hard it would be to move this switch or try to install it on the rounded cover like you have. Do you think a maybe 1 inch tall rocker switch would fit on there behind the shifter?

You can always go to Radio Shack and get a mini-toggle switch. Personally, I'd relocate the switch to a more inconspicuous area. Maybe extend the wires and place it in a dummy plate near the steering wheel.

Well when i bought the maxima it didn't come with one. It was gone along, i think the person that owned it cracked it or somthing. SO i went to the nissan dealer to get a new one. I wanted the gray but the idiot guy me the wood one. I was pissed but i watned a console asap. So thats why you got the wood one John. its not too bad looking but if you change it out you have to drill a hole for the switch for the rear camra. The gauges as far as i know only come on the SE likes that. The GXE's have the black ones.
Oh yeah BTW i miss my car haha
keep it looking good
