Intake manifold problem

Well, Yesterday as i was putting my intake manifold back on after changing my plugs, I noticed that the butterfly on the varaible intake was not openning all the way . It only opens about half way. To my understanding object on the passenger side of the intake [don't know the correct name] that at full throttle was suppose to touch the bar. Mine still has about a 1/2inch clearance between it and the bar. Is this normal? If not i would i've run 13.6 and trapped over 104mph with this problem, so i would love to see what it would do with it fixed. Thanx in advance!!

What did you trap before this "problem". "13.6 and trapped over 104mph" sounds like a fix.

Not sure if it's suposed to activate all the way, I would think so, seems like a vacuum problem if there is one.

I meant 6spd maximas....i agree emax was close...iirc it was [email]13.8@101mph..... juice & blubyu are definitely fast maximas....the weird thing is, I think there are more 4spd autos in the 13s than 6spds? correct me if i am wrong....but it "seems" like it....

EDIT: I thought juice already made it?

That was my point steven88 Maybe we should have our IM only open partially .. that's the trick. juice is at 13.7, almost@13.6.

I was comparing those times to 13.6, per Jay_Pee.

It's probably a vacuum problem though that;s it's not opening all the way.

nope, not a vacuum problem. I toke the arm from the vacuum canister off and tried to open it manually. It still didn't work.

As far as mods go:
Homemade intake
carsound cat
warpspeed b-pipe
hotshot headers
greddyevo muffler
That time was run w/ a 2.23 60'. Later on i got a 2.21 60' but missed third gear and ran 13.9 @102mph. The 104.19 mph was run on a 13.8 w/ a 2.39 60'. All time were run with full interior and pump gas.

Can you say factory freak .. How's the homeade intake consist of? That's a wicked trap man.

When you speak of it not opening all the way, is it hitting the stop next to the vacuum actuator? Or is it obstructed by something internally?

we will use this picture for reference.....anyway Jaypee....is your intake manifold actuator opening only halfway compared to what you see in this picture? what you see in the picture right now is the CLOSED position (below 4k)....after VI activates....the hook where the zip tie is attached to should fold 90 degrees....meaning it is completely open...does yours open only half way?

who knows...it might be normal for it to open only halfway...I have not tried looking at the hook becuz I can't rev the car's engine while outside the car (drive by wire)....i gotta get an aid to help me...

I'm not sure if it's something internally, but it's not hitting the stopper next to the vacuum actuator. There's about a 1/2inch gap between the butterfly and the stopper

JP - I remember something like this when Matt (SR20DEN) first took his motor apart. He accidently hooked up a Vac line the wrong way. Might want to follow up with him directly and see if he has any ideas.

Welp, today i found the problem. It seems that one of the screws from the VI butterfly had come off and the butterfly was hanging on by one screw off center. This also explains the loud knock that i had in my car back in Sept. It was the screw tapping around inside the valves. This also means that my VI was not openning completely when i ran 13.6. I'm not sure if that's bad or good but we will see tomorrow when i go to the track. I'll scan my timeslips when i get home if my computer is working yet. Thanxz for all the help guys

what do you mean "the screw was tapping around inside the valves"?

Wouldn't this mean damage to the heads?
