Loud Whine/buzz At Startup--

The idler pulley & tenshioner pulley bearings going old?

00 SE. I believe the whine sound comes after the starter disengages. I start the car fine, the engine revs to like 2K RPM but then at peak it goes up a little more like 2-500RPM and this is where the sound comes. It's almost like a buzzing sound... If it was the starter, I'd hear the whine right off the bat where the starter is engaged right? It goes away if the engine is warm. I turn the key in the on position and wait a few seconds and still get that noise.

If it is the pulley bearings, how much do they cost?
What exactly do these pulleys do?

Thanks for your time guys!

or it could be the electronic motor mount - i've had this whining noise at start up or when ever the gas is pressed or sometimes it even does it on its own when im stopped at light. will be taking mine to the dealer before my ext warranty is up but the car still runs normal as usual. good luck

Are you sure about this? I did take a look at this...The thing is, it only happens at the peak of when the engine starts up...

Then again, since it happens only when cold...

I have a high-pitched noise at startup sometimes lasting only 2 seconds. It appears to come from the fans. Could it really be coming from the starter? The noise is worse when the engine is cold.

Is the noise more like a squeal? Might be your alternator belt needs tightening.

'00 Clicking sound when starting

When I turn on the ignition, before starting, I hear 5 whining/clicking sounds from the top of the engine on the drivers side lasting about 3 seconds. When running, the sounds will come and go while accelerating. When the engine is turned off, I will hear the five sounds again. It runs a little sluggish until warmed up. Could this be a fuel deliver problem? Any help would be great.

Yes, it is definitely a squeal. I had 2 belts replaced about 6 months ago, one of which was the alternator belt (I think). This noise is coming from the the front of the engine near the rad and fans. When the engine is warm, the noise only lasts about 2 seconds.

Check the belt tension with your fingers, if it seems kinda loose just tighten it up with the idler wheel. If not, might be the alternator itself (bad bearings, brushes). Take the belt off and see if your alternator spins freely.
