Removed air box part
the part that goes from the front of the car to the airbox..........is that important? i can only see it as a restriction of airflow based on its design(who smoked crack and thought that was a good design?). anyways, the only thing i can see is that it sucks in air at a higher volume but a slightly higher temp.......so it kinda evens out. i just wanted a little more noise from that engine without buying an intake.
any ideas? intake growl without buying crap?

it may serve as a slight restriction but it is pulling cooler air. the air in the bay is going to be warmer so will the air coming past the condenser and radiator before it hits the opening. i would suggest porting the stock air box or cutting the lid of the bracket so you get more air than with the stock box but cooler air coming in as well. in the end, it is not going to play a huge part but i feel this works best for me.

gotcha
but im looking at the part and i dont see why it was designed the way it is. there are so many bends and "chambers" for the air to go through.........it makes no sense. i understand the air i am taking in will be warmer, but there will be less of it. so in the same respect, it will be about the same but theres more noise from the current setup.
anyways, im thinking of doing a "holes all over" setup or maybe something like the one thats been floating around.........the pipe that is near the ground. but then again, i could easily make a cheapy intake with a cone filter and some pipe.......prolly more growl too. i dunno. *shrugs*

thats true...my company actually designed these damn things for the new 6th Gen Maxima/Altima. The have 2 resonators which quieten things down quite a lot and streamlines the airflow...next time you take apart those things, look for a sign that says ABC in an oval..thats my company's name.

I don't have any dyno numbers to prove anything, but with my K&N coathanger GAB and a new pipe between the MAF and TB I seem to have gained a good amount of power, especially once the variable intake opens up.
It also growls nicely. The only downsides I see from this is a small loss of torque at lower rpm (at least it seems) and the fact that you have a "GHETTO" airbox!!! LOL

Jim, I've a Berk intake and I removed the piece you're talking about... I'm sure it helped slightly to keep it in, but it was kinda just flopping around in there so I took it out...

Here's a 6spd dyno that also nets ~9hp from only the GAB.
