GAB Mod Engine Safety

How safe is the GAB mod? It looks to me like there would not be very much pressure holding the air filter seal at the bottom of the air box. Has anyone here had problems doing this? This is something I want to try if it will not choke my engine full of dust.

a properly done GAB is just as safe as any aftermarket intake.

if you do the coathanger GAB then you have to use the thick gauge wire and not the regular wire in order for it to hold the filter in place and create a tight seal. i've been using it for over a year now with no problem.

if you don't trust the coathanger you can also dremel the filter holder to do the GAB, but i don't like this method since you can't return it to stock once you've cut up the holder.

You can also use K&N filter sealing grease as an extra preventative measure. The grease provides enough stickiness to hold the filter on its own while making sure you have an excellent seal.

I've ran a GAB setup for 6-7k miles....i am lowered over 3.5 inches from stock on stiff a$$ coilovers.....i run max damper settings....and I also run low profile tires....my ride is very harsh from stock...and i've also hit some nasty bumps and potholes during my drop....with all that into consideration....my GAB setup has NEVER failed me....everytime I pop open the hood to examine my GAB....there is absolutely no signs of it moving.....

now granted i've only had it for 6k miles....you must understand that my ride is nowhere near stock stiffness....so I believe that 6k miles will equal to 12k miles on a stock maxima with the GAB....bottom line is...a properly made GAB WILL NOT fail on you....
