project- air ride install, pics

got the electrical done last nite, and the rear axle finished this afternoon. most of its straight forward- if you know how to replace springs, use a cut off wheel, and minor mig welding and electrical. getting the valves hooked up to the switch is by far the most confusing- but nothing to rack your brain over. this is my third complete air ride install so i am getting a little quicker as i learn the ins and outs. time spent as of right now, six hours, hopefully done by noon tomorrow.

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/morgan.../ph//my_photos

if someone could host them pics it would be cool, tomorrow i will post some of the front and the whole thing installed. and my custom stock looking switch on the console. word

i think its a waste to bag a max. go ahead and go for coilovers but id rather get a nicer car than blow that kind of cash and effort on a nissan. i also dont think those rims look like they belong on a maxima. just my opinion but its your time and money

arnold/lontar- i've discovered when you step out of the world of popular mods people are going to love it or hate it. either way- i am the one driving it and i love that sh*t.

tenet- if you just want to bag or put cylinders your car, it can be done for $800. but that gives you that bumpy lowered ride. my kit i got sponsor pricing on- but the msrp is close to $1600. in my setup i keep my stock struts, to provide some bump stop and smooth the ride, the bag just replaces the spring. springs control height, struts control ride.

edit-

lex- coilovers? some garbage d2 whatevers that people always complain about or some teins that are overpriced? my suspension does as much as either, and when im done beating on it, i can go back to stock ride at the touch of a button. my suspension has a drag, auto x, stock ride adjustments at my fingertips- and i dont scrape on speedbumps.

Maybe you should sell your car then and get off this website. If you don't like the mod fine, you said so. There is no need to say anymore more about it. If he wants to run them that is his business. Move on.

lontar- like i said, hate it or love it. too radical for a maxima? i think headers are too radical and people who remove parts to lose weight. a maxima is a sedan not a drag queen, you dont have to hate or love that part- thats the truth. stay out of my thread with your bull**** or i will start making fun of you until you cry.

krmax/skier- im glad yall like it, thanks for the compliments.

Hey Lexbond,

You mentioned that at a touch of a button you have AUTOX, and other such modes.. THIS IS REALLY WEIRD.. if your setup is similar to the setup i saw on the WRX install (I can't remember the name of the company, but they were prototyping with the WRX), then these guys dont realize the potential of such a setup. But i doubt this is the system you have on your ride and yours is just a regular bag setup.

The system that was on the WRX was a air bag setup, but customized for race applications (crazy expensive), but it would make ANY COILOVER SYSTEM FOR THE MAXIMA pale in comparison.

Just a question, I have always wanted to bag my max (when money comes along), but i was always curious, what the ride was like in terms of day to day driving and handling. No matter how i look at it, my car is huge, and i am really not feeling the rear suspension design. I rode several modified 5th gens and you can't seem to get away from the solid rear beam setup (ie, hard cornering and hitting a bump = not fun). Therefore i figure, why not bag the BIATCH.. LOL

Forgive some of the members here though, people seem to hate certain mods and tend to FLAME like animals. I give you lots of respect doing something like that on your ride man!!

I like it also. It must be the "ghettoness" inside me speaking. Is "ghettoness" a word?

mike jr- ill be around, give me a ring a ling.

metal- i understand the 'ghetto' or 'idiot' comment. to each their own. but why the clansmen- care to elaborate?

mini- this setup paired with a performance strut would yield exactly what a street rod would use. remember struts control the ride, and springs control the height. an adjustable spring, like this, gives you different compression ratios. the ride gets stiffer the lower you go- at the track a stiff rear would help with the 'see saw' action and body roll and prevent the front from lifting while accelerating giving the car more traction. as far as day to day ride quality- if the bags are at the same height as the stock springs the result is a stock ride. make sense?

tenet- thanks dude, you might see me around im in hartford often enough.

whazzup- if ghettoness is a word, i would be the 'see also' reference in the dictionaries definition. i will take that as a compliment, thanks.

WTF is up with these hatin a'ss kids in here?!?! Because of **** like this, most of the OG's 5th Gen have moved out and don't bother coming here anymore.

Luxbond, major props. We need innovation like this. Good luck and post reviews once everything is buttoned down.

lumbee- those are some kind words, and you were right about those not bothering to come anymore. theres only so much bullsh*t a person can ignore.

got the front done this morning, right at noon, as i estimated. them front strut perches needed alot of modification to get the fitting sunk low enough to route the hose. now i just have to secure the hoses and clean her up. ive got pics that i will upload this afternoon, and a few shots of my other 'top secret' project- people who think the maxima is a race car should look for them.

I don't think it looks bad (assuming you are not gonna be riding around with the front up high and the back down low, that is)...though it's not for me....I'm not a big fan of the wheels, but if you dig em, that's what matters.

sarcastic response now: so, can you roll around with your right front wheel off the ground like Dr. Dre now? j/k

Some people need to seriously

The wheels are the only thing I'd change but it is your car. I remember a couple of guys bagging their TLs, when I had mine. Adjustable ride height by a flick of your finger is something any car enthusiast should be interested in. Very cool! GL on the completion, I'm interested to see the finished product, and maybe a video?!
