What do you guys think?

so i have been working on a tail light project for my 03 and finally got them open have been thinking of ways to make these different and need your opinion on this...

no im not really sure about whether this will be legal or not but i kinda like the way that it looks. of course i would put red and amber bulbs in the light or maybe some led's i havent decided yet. i was also thinking of painting the housing body color so that the lights would blend with the body of the car a little more... let me know what you guys think about this...

I would say keep the top red and the bottom clear. Then get those bulbs that are silver but flash amber to keep it legal.

Just make sure that you seal them back up correctly. If not, the water condensation will make the lights look crappy.

You probably blew your MAF. Does the car rev past 2500 RPM?

did u disconnect the battery for atleast 3 hours? also did u install the MAF backwards? i did this at first but quickly fixed it.

anyway for the lights i would put red on top and leave the bottom clear. make sure you put the lights back together right otherwise its gonna look crappy

yeah it looks good, but i agree with pretty much everyone else...i think you should leave the top red then just get a chromed bulb to throw in the blinker, and you should be set....

i ended up using a dremmel on the drivers side it was alot easier than using the heat gun which seemed to make the lens more fragle than it is already and it cracked pretty easily...

can you cut the dividing part in the lens? then making the whole thing red, and go with the full circle led? big round one and a small round one. kinda like g35 coupe tail? our tails suck, you cant really do much to it.

i think i understand what you are saying and if you were to remove the divider you would have a pretty good size gap between the top and bottom sections... but i do like you idea i think that would look really good!

i know, our circle is way bigger than g35 cp ones. they would look dope, maybe 3 led rings inside? but bigger leds to fill in the circle?

i dont know if i understand you now theres really no way that you can remove the divider in the center of the light unless you did half circles with the led's thats really the only want that you could make this work... btw i have no experience with electrical and led's so if someone would like to help with this project they are more than welcome...

clear the top and bottom and replace the clear lense on the reverse light w/ a red reflector, then switch the the revese and signal wires,
it would be like the cleared tails (w/ a red revese) that used to be all over ebay but these would be legal

I am also doing this but I will be painting mine eather black or body color (majestic Blue) Leave the top red and clear bottom since you need a red reflector at the rear of the car.

Yeah what id really like to see is for some altezza style lighting to come out for the 5th gens. My buddy has the altezza II on his max and he has it so it looks like there are little LEDs lighting up just that large circle. It looks very similar to that of the skyline. Very nice and sharp. Thats what we need for our rides boys!

if you paint it majestic blue, will you also do your headlights that color or leave them black to match your carbon fiber hood?

Don't do whatever he said. That won't look good at all, almost altezza-ish. The red clear would look the best.

the only problem that i have with the red/clear is that the se and gxe tails already have that and im looking to do something that is totally different with this project...

Well, the 5.5 Gens don't have a proper red/clear, unlike the SE (black surround). Hence why I think the red/clear on the clear lense would look nice. But I guess it's your project and you do what's best for you.

no i totally agree that it looks really good the way you have described and i appreciate all of the input and ideas that you guys have given but what im really looking for is something that when someone who has an idea of what a max tail looks like and sees mine to be like wow that is really nice...

If you've got clear corners, go with the clear lens look. Although if legality is an issue you should make sure your top lights flash amber.

the top of the large circle, (w/ red bulb) would be your brake light, bottom would be reverse and the the small circle would be blinker.
