Intake Manifold/Puddled Oil

Anyone know the source of oil in the intake manifold? I have puddled oil all inside the intake. Thinking about getting a catch can and either putting it on the PVC valve or the breather tube for the intake.

Cleaned my throttle body about 10k miles ago but did not notice a lot of oil/grime. So what is the source?

PCV. If you have aftermarket midpipe, that will make oil go in hte IM too.

Thats what I thought. Still not sure how it gets there...from the intake though. Would it be better to put the catch can on the intake breather tube or the pcv?

Then you can put an oil seperator on the PCV hose.

Where is the PCV valve on our cars? A nerd at the service desk said that we did not have a PCV valve in our cars. I wanted to replace mine, and the guy said that there isn't one.

It is on the passenger side of the intake manifold. Look for a small tube coming out of the manifold and connecting to the back of the intake. Tube is about 6 inches long.

I think it was around $30. Maybe a little less.

Wondering if the oil/crud being passed back into the air stream has anything to do with the low RPM pinging some of us 2002-2003 Maxs have. I read that oil in the fuel will seriously lessen octane.

An interesting solution to the problem:

This guy created a special oil cap, so PCV vents back into the pan.

Interesting findings thus far. I drive about 30 miles round trip to work per day. So far, after only 3 days, the separator is about half full of fuel/oil.

I noticed that the low RPM ping is not as bad. I've only heard it once in the last 3 days.

All of that was caught in only 300 miles of highway driving.
