Media Setup
Media Setup
Hey Guys, I am just looking for maybe some opinions and advice on a couple things. I am looking into getting an in-car theater system, and I wanted to do it a little different then the all in one unit. Firstly, Is it possible to use a Single Din Cd/mp3 reciever and a Single DIN Motorized LCD screen at the same time. I am Wondering if I am going to be able to stack them. What I am looking at is a 400$ Pioneer cd-player and hooking my xbox up to a fold-out LCD monitor and using the XBOX as a DVD player and Since the xbox is going to be modded and running xbox Media Center and all that I just wanted to know if anyone has tried stacking single DINS since the Stock bose is Double DIN. Also, I have all the amps and Speakers to rewire the system and get rid of the bose but I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for a good 7inch(or bigger) Fold-out LCD monitor. I dont know what kind of features to be looking for but I would like a nice one that looks kinda cool when closed. I would rather have the fold-out becuase I dont want the monitor to just sit on the dash, In my opinion thats kinda tacky. Anyways, Any help would be appricated.
well i know what you're talking about and i can see how you can save some money there but the problem exists with technology. there aren't a lot of units out there that are flip out that DON'T have dvd. technology has allowed them to add it w/out increasing the cost that much.
it is doable though. pretty rare, but doable. again, it's almost becomes useless to manufacture a flip out monitor w/out adding an extra feature to it, since it is taking up a complete din.
now, i need to ask. what's wrong with the all in ones? have some resentment with it? do you want to fill in both dins. there are many options. i know the latest double din units are pretty nice. for example. the avx series by eclipse comes in double din, with buttons along the left and right, along with the fact that it's touch screen and it's flush into your console. so you get a nice OEM look to it. the higher end avx series has a built-in 20gb which rips every cd that you insert....newer ones have 30gb models with 20 for music and 10 for built-in navigation.
now, only to show you the options, my setup for example...i have a single-din flipout which has dvd/mp3/cd. the 2nd din, i first had a pocket, then switched it over to a mirrored plexiglass screen with a few switches. that got nasty and scratched up so i've opted for 1/8" melanine wood (thin but strong) with a layer of brushed aluminum glued on. i then made some cutouts and added a voltmeter, and MAYBE adding a control **** for an eq i may be possibly adding.
hope you get some ideas with this. IMHO, gettin a flip out monitor will be hard, as they are rare. but good luck.

I like your setup man, Very Clean, Would it be possible maybe to see some daytime pics or atleast a couple brighter pics. also if you dont mind my asking howm uch was your whole setup? I was looking at probably like 600-700 with the way I was going other then labor at car-toys cuz they like to rip you off. I went to get an estimate on remote start and it was $388.77. 250$ of that was labor. I would do it myself but I dont want to mess anything up cosmetically.
I did find a couple monitors in the 100-300$ range with video in-out for hooking the xbox up and then I figure probably to hook up my future head-rest LCD's.
I guess the only reason I kinda want to do this is becuase I like lights and cool screen effects during the music (dont know what to call that, maybe an EQ although I know thats something different) I wanna put the xbox in the car since i have two and I think it would just be a cost saving move. I was thinking a Pioneer Premier deck with a OEL display or whaTever they call it (just so I could have dolpins jumping, ahah) And use the deck to run my eq's but I guess this all depends on how much one of those indash's cost. I got a qoute at car-toys for 750$ jenses and I have bought alot of stuff there and I also bought the maxima at a dealership they have a dell with so he gave me 10% off and the deck came to like 650 or something like that but its still came to like 1100$ for labor and all that bull.
OK, I am done typing.

but agreed, they can provide many options.
i just took these pictures about 10 minutes ago. they should cover any/all angles you are looking for. it's brushed aluminum and it looks alot better in person. these pictures make it seem almost like a solid white, although it's more platinum color.

Do you see how the screen blocks the a/c vents. I want to put a flip screen in mine but don' t want the screen to block the vents. Remember the pictures about the guy who put the a/c vents in the sunglasses visor? I like that idea because then you can push the DVD unit as far down as possible.Either that, or get a dash kit that places the unit at the bottom portion of the insert to avoid that. It still looks good don't get me wrong. Cool place for a volt meter.

Myself i dont really care about the vents beening blocked since i dont really use them too much. I just want to see how everyone else here is doing their setup. Maybe I will just trying to do something that wont be worth it in the end but I figured it would be a little different and in my mind cost-effective.

There are concerns about the temperature of the air coming from those vents when you have the screen covering them. I dont know how well the LCD screens hold up to the temp changes, but we discussed that in the audio forum a while back. Id put it in the lower din, or get a double din unit.
if you looking to spend around 800 bucks, go for the clarion vrx935 it has a 7" screen, dvd, mp3, and radio, also sat radio capable, it is a very solid unit.
i was deciding between this or the pioneer avic-n1.
although i ended up getting the eclipse avn5435, i would say the clarion was a close second.
now considering that a single din flip out screen only would cost u around 500 bucks (if u ever find one of those these days) i would rather spend 300 more for a do it all unit.
