Look guys...let the heat off Nissan, all of you know that the altima has always had the one year head start on the maxima so quit whining about it. They'll come out with a better and badder maxima. AND most peeps don't like what Nissan is doing because of how much the RESALE and TRADE IN value of their car will DROP... It'll probably DROP DEAD when it comes t RESALE AND TRADE IN value.

Bad analogy! I expect faster P4's, just like I expect faster and better Maximas...but I don't expect for a Celeron to smoke my P4 chip, just like I wasn't expecting a "better-than-the-2001-flagship" Altima

well...

I do 'whine' about losing a couple grand. Maybe I have to work too hard for my money that I seem to care too much about my resale.

Oooh! Good point, RMcoolX. Still, I really didn't expect Nissan to rise to the occasion for us so I wasn't disappointed by their response.

As always, the best way to vote is with our dollars. Those who are really disappointed can always choose to purchase their next vehicle from a manufacturer other than Nissan.

Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.

We are very sorry to hear of your concerns in regard to the recent remodeling and upgrading of our 2002 Altima. These changes were made to give the vehicle a bold and exciting image.

The changes to the 2002 Altima represent Nissan's desire to create a bold and exciting brand image. We have dedicated ourselves to developing vehicles for the model year 2002 that evoke a passion for driving.

The formula used in designing the 2002 Altima has also been applied to our 2002 Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed, and the redesigned 2002 Xterra.

Unfortunately, we are not offering any upgrades for our current Maxima owners at this time. The 2002 Maxima is scheduled to be released in August 2001, but we do not have any information available in regard to changes or upgrades. We invite you to visit our web sites, www.nissandriven.com and www.nissannews.com, for further updates.

If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail us.

Sincerely,

Maggie Maese

To paraphrase Braveheart, "The good Lord thinks Altima owners will be all right, but he's pretty sure we're focked!"

I wouldn't keep that from preventing us sending e-mails to NNA regardless. If they get enough e-mails from disgruntled 5th Gen Maxima owners, they may change their tune.

I agree 100%. Of course this will be their response to the first few hundred letters, but if they see that thousands are ****ed, they may feel the need to take some kind of action.

Bad analogies

Ok, you are comparing a $25K car to a $100 computer chip, in a market where computer prices can drop by the day. It is a hard thing to swallow when you pay alot of dough for a nice new "flagship" car, only to here a month later that the lower model car gets a makeover that will make your "flagship" car cringe with fear. I bet when they new Altimas come out along with the 2002 Maxi's that the resale value will drop worse than the stock market. Maxima is a great car, but they have bought my last car from a Nissan dealer I believe.

Oh god, the clothes I bought last year have all had their lines refreshed for this year. I better take them all back to the department store and ask them to exchange them for the new looks that are out.

And say it isn't so, but my second most favorite recording artist just released a new CD. I better take the current CD of my most favorite artist back to the store to demand some kind of deal since this other CD has more tracks on it.

Same old tired analogy.

Some people here act as if Nissan had this plot to purposely cheat 5th generation Maxima owners. Yeah, that's it! Years ago, Nissan decided to rip off the people by redesigning the 4th generation Maxima to make it better than ever, while their real intention was to really introduce a powerful new Altima years after that so that they could have the satisfaction of spitting on our faces. Nissan is so evil! They're worse than the tobacco companies!

Yes Nissan did these changes to atract new customers, and to make their lineup of cars more exciting, but in doing so they really angered alot of existing customers, and if they don't take care of existing customers, they will go right on to the next car maker.

I have an idea

Anyone else heard what Mazda did for the miata owners. Well....mazda messed up with the hp figures on the miata, and mazda offered the owners either a 500 debit card for any purchases, or the option to take the car back to the dealer and get a full refund minus mileage.

I know this is not the same situation, but I think at least 1000 dollar debit card would be fine for my troubles, or the option to trade for a altima or the 03 max at 1000 under invoice.

I don't know about all of you guys/gals...but I would hate to see what the gas mileage is going to be like for the 03 max, or the 02 altima with the 3.5 liter engine. I enjoy going fast...but at what point does going fast, out weigh the factor of 3 dollar a gallon gas!

My 3 liter maxima will beat a 6.6 liter car...who cares about displacement!!!!
