Redline at 6500??
#1
Today I ran 2nd gear into the red section, I would guess 6700+ rpms. I thought the white dash before the start of the red zone was the 6500 mark. If not, I was definitely shifting too soon at the track, D@MN!

alex...does someone want some lessons on racing a stick? i only charge a little bit of money...anyways...while you have the clutch in (you know, while you are shifting) try to rev it up some before you let the clutch back out...this makes it easier to stay in the powerband between shifts and it kind of gives you a launching effect in every gear (next lesson...how to chirp from 1st to 2nd...i will teach you well, my son)

The higher you shift, the better your E.T.
The 5th gen makes its power way up high.
The trick is to shift *just* after the indicated redline WITHOUT hitting the limiter...
Once you hit the revlimiter in *any* gear your E.T. is crap.
It requires lightning quick reflexes & quick feet.
Practice, Practice, Practice.
And Practice, even.

WRONG
THAT IS WRONG, THAT'S NOT HOW YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO ****, man, some of you really need to take physics classes (don't take offense, I always talk this way)
ok, now, this is a lesson in shifting
think about the torque curve, it goes up peaks and then goes down, it is the same kind of curve for EVERY gear, now the little differences might change, but the actual shape is the same
now that we got that straightened out
now, lay out the curves so it's 1st gear, 2nd gear ...
what usually happens is the 1st gear peaks out, this is not where you want to shift, and then it is climbing down, now if you go too far, the torque will just fall
THIS IS CRITICAL
you shift, when the 1st gear torque curve intersects with the 2nd gear torque curve
that is the ULTIMATE shift point, no matter what anyone says, they are wrong. if you think about this, you will see what I'm talking about, if you have a question, e-mail me or something
well, I included a picture of what I'm talking about, enjoy
