I am having the same problem, disconnect the battery for atleast an hour when you reconnect it will work again, for me it works for about 2-3 months then acts up again until I disconnect the battery and do it all over again.

Have you disconnected your battery lately? If so, that is normal. If not, just try this reset procedure anyways... its from page 2-29 in your owners manual.

Restarting the sunroof sliding switch

The sliding switch will become inoperable after
the battery terminal is disconnected, the electrical
supply interrupted and/or some abnormality
detected. Use the following re-set procedure
to return sunroof operation to normal.

1. If the sunroof lid is open, push the tilting
switch repeatedly toward tilt DOWN to fully
close the lid.

2. After the lid has closed all the way, keep
pushing the tilting switch toward tilt DOWN
for more than 1 second.

My recipe to fix this is:

Open the sunroof all the way. Remove the key from the ignition.
Close the sunroof. Remove the key from the ignition.
Tilt the sunroof up. Remove the key from the ignition.
Close the sunroof. Remove the key from the ignition.

If that doesn't work start looking for a new sunroof motor.

He has an 02, so it might be slightly different than for you. Unless they're using the exact same sunroofs in 00s and 02s...

I think it was either 01 or 02 when they introduced the 4 position slider switch. It sounds like they use an encoder to keep track of the glass position and when batt power is lost, so is the pos. The procedure described above a must be a reset (i.e establish home position). A good thing to keep in mind.

On another note not to hijack, when does your low fuel light come on, I have been down to 1/8 tank and no ligh and it isn't part of the start-up light check. I think at 1/8 tank there was still about 5 gallons in there?

I have the occasional sunroof problem with my 2003 SE. Using this reset procedure really does work, but I usually hold the button down for about five seconds instead of one second. The most likely scenario is that your sunroof motor lost its reference position (or "home" position) for one reason or another. Holding the tilt button (not the open/close slider switch) in the DOWN position for over one second triggers the motor to relearn its reference position.

disconnect the battery (doesn't really matter how long). If it doesn't work right, disconnect it and leave it a little longer.

I have a 2k with 135K miles on it and it happened about 8 or 9 months ago and has been working fine since.

That doesn't work for 02-03s... read post #4 for the explanation.

Disconnecting the battery could actually be what causes this problem in the first place, since the sunroof motor can lose its "reference" position when the battery is disconnected. Holding the tilt switch in the DOWN position for a few seconds fixes the problem.

it depends..actually, my sunroof did that, and a few days later, it wouldnt open at all, even with the reset, and battery unplugged. so i took it to the dealer, and they wrote down pinched wire. the guy said that the motor is fine, but theres no power going to it.but if you cant fix it just take it to the dealer if you have warranty. if not then you need to take it to a shop.

Just wait a day or two and it'll work. Have you unplugged your battery? Anytime you unplug it, it takes a while for the sunroof to reset. I don't know the procedure to clear it, but wait a couple days, and it'll fix itself. As long as the other button works to move the roof back and forth, your all set. The slider switch will work shortly. Just make sure to remember what position the slider is in, I had the slider switch in the open position (but the roof was closed because I used the alternate switch to shut it) so when I started the car, all of a sudden the sunroof opened, and it scared the sh*t out of me. Forgot I had the slider set to open when the switch wasn't working.

its gotta be the battery disconnect. i did it last night, and my sunroof was all muffed up this morning. i had to play with the tilt switch to get it to work right. i think if you let it sit for about 15 mins witht the car turned on, it will work ok again.

That's exactly what Spiromax and I have been trying to say; its straight out of the owners manual, page 2-29...
