Stock spring mod? possible?

I've been debating over which springs to get and I read housecors page. I pretty much decided to go with the Tein H-Techs because of the drop specs, but I was at a shop yesterday and I was told that the springs would be too stiff and uncomfortable for everyday driving. They recommended Sprints with a 1.8 drop all around, but my rear doesn't have to come down that much. Only about an inch or so. A guy I know suggested that I just heat up my stock springs with a torch and drop it that way. So, has anyone here done that or know of anyone that has? How will it effect the ride? Are there any comfortable springs that'll give me a 1.5 - 1.8 drop in front and a 1.0 drop in rear. Thanks for the input guys!

Uhhhhhh NEVER heat and/or cut your springs.

I would not cut the springs with a torch due to the heat effecting the quality of the spring. A better way would be to cut the spring with a cut off wheel with the spring in a bucket of water. Be careful how and where you cut them though. A lot of people will tell you not to cut the springs, period, so get ready for flaming. I have however, wanted to try this myself on other cars.

You'll be fine with the H-Techs. Just pair the springs up with some aftermarket struts. Don't torch your springs and shrink them that way. The ride will be horrible. You could also mix the springs, for example H-Tech up front and H&R in the rear. Some people would advise against this but if this is for everyday driving it will work.

They said that H-Techs would be too stiff but recommended Sprints instead? Something is wrong with this picture... Sprints drop the car 1.8 all around and the H-Techs drop em 1.6F and 1.0R... usually lower drops means that the springs have to be stiffer in order to ensure the car doesn't bounce too low when ya hit bumps.

I say screw what they're telling you, the fact that they suggested cutting your stock springs just shows that they are complete retards... people here with the H-Techs love em and say they ride well... its definitely a good looking drop too...

obviously... don't get any work done at this place if they're telling you to torch your springs.. not safe or good at all. Maybe you should get a second professional opinion from another shop (or two).?

do not heat springs. read up on welding and the "heat affected zone" and you will understand why (it would take a page or 2 to explain). if you cut your springs they will not seat properly and may dislocate during hard cornering, DONT DO EITHER.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate all of the input. I had called a few shops and they were all too expensive or didn't have the springs I wanted. So, now I'm gonna go with the H-Techs. I'll prolly just get 'em off the net and find a place to intsall.

Tien H-techs are supposed to be really comfortable. Are you talking about S-techs?

H&Rs might be what you are looking for. You will probably want to get some Illuminas if you want a comfortable ride.

Nope, I'm talkin' about the H-techs. The shop i went to told me they'd be too stiff. H&Rs don't have the drop I want. They're only 1.4 F and 1.3 R. I need more in front and less in rear, which is why I'm goin' with the H-Techs. That link is pretty informative, but housecors page has a bit more info. Thanks anyway!

Sure if you want a cheap drop and an extremely crappy ride go a head and use a tourch. You ever see a Civic or some other rice burner driving in front of you and everytime they run over a twig in the road the whole car bounces? That's because they used a tourch to drop their car, or even better (worse) they cut their stock springs down a couple coils.
