New Spring Without Struts?

Whats up, I was talking to a few people and I just wanted to get more opinions I have a 2001 maxima gle I want to lower it a little so I am gonna get new springs but some people are saying I NEED to get new struts someone said THERE 5 YEARS OLD, but I know some people who have put springs on a 1988 honda and didnt change the struts and they are fine. What do you guys think new struts or no? I want to save as much money as possible just spend about $13,000 on car and rims

man i would say it wont kill you to pick up a set of struts aswell as the lowering springs. im running Koni struts wrapped in tein s-techs and im very pleased witht he ride quality. The thing about the lowering springs on stock stuts is it put alot of stress on the struts, my advice would be to replace the whole thing, struts and all. But if your budget won't allow for that to happen right away its ok. I would just recommend at some point changing them out.

I gotta say .... Considering what you got to go through to replace the rear springs you should replace the rear struts at the same time. You don't want to do the rears twice.

if it was me id just do that whole set up as aftermarket and save myself the time and effort and quite possibly money that is spent paying a mechanic to do the work if you dont plan on doing it yourself.

yeah man, if your too stingy to get new struts, then go try the classifieds. you can find real nice deals, you just gotta be patient, and look it up every day. used ones aint too bad. i found a set of kyb agx for 275. pretty cheap for adjustable struts. the tokico hps are nice too.

like he said... I'm "stingy" and got some used Tokico HPs with about 10k miles off the 5th Gen Classifieds forum for $165 shipped... that's $165 for all 4.
