thanks guys. I'll see if i can take it off, and make it longer somehow, wither by making a brand new peice, or maybe cutting it in half, and adding a longer sleeve in the middle. i think this will be my best bet as well.

But there is no way I am pulling that rear view mirror off... I had a windsheild break one time just from my bass, neer mind me just yanking on it. I will have to drive around with out a mirrior for a while when i am working on it.

Eh. It'll take some getting used to no mirror, but plenty of guys with trucks do it all the time. You'll get used to it. And since the mirror is there and still partially unblocked, you may not even have a problem going through inspection.

That looks really good. Nice work man! I'm starting my first glass job soon, I hope my results comeout as good as yours. If you try a new piece, you should slant it at an angle, facing downwards a little towards the center console instead of towards the rear seat. That might help give a little more clearance for the rearview mirror. All in all, it's a very clean job. Anymore projects in mind for the future?

just an idea here; use you current mirror or get an aftermarket mirror, make some attachment point (i.e. the red line) and attach the mirror to the front lip of the unit with some fold up/down thing.

(sorry, lost the file in the link...)

granted it is displaced in the cabin quite a bit closer to your face, and it would not hang down as low as i have it horrible depicted as, but it is just an idea
yes i did spend alot of time on this in photoshop,

Just An Update:

I am still working on this project, and I have not forgotton about this thread. I never would have imagined that this would be so much of a PITA. it seems that every time i turn to install something, I run into a major issue. it basicly took me all day yesterday JUST to make a braket for the tv, and solder in the power. the braket itself was a PITA to make, but it came out very well. my brother helped me which i greatly appreciate.

other then that, (for problems) i broke the IR sensor for the RC on the tv, but i did some crafty soldering/wiring, and hopefully it still works.

NOW, for the big problem... remember the bezel i made for the deck? well now that i move the deck so far down, i can see the lcd display clearly. no bigge... ill just hit the "angle" button. wrong. I molded theat peice so close to the deck, that it does not have enough room for the faceplace of the deck to move out and up. so i am not even sure what the hell i am going to do. i guess i am going to have to redo it.

well, theres my update...

Relax, man...I feel your pain. I am on my 4th friggin design. Are you sure that there is something that you did not miss? You should just be able to hook the power up and the screen should light...maybe try testing it out of station?

Relax, you've come this far...in all honesty you have the hard part done!

alright, you are doing a HECK of a lot better than most of the people on the .org could have done, and so far, every problem you've come across you've been able to fix, so just keep your head straight, and you'll eventually get this problem sorted out... can't wait to see the pics, i bet it looks great!

You gotta have patience with something like that... I used to build plane models from scratch - still pisses me off when I think about all the problems and series of unfortunate events I've encountered... Keep up the good work bro - you'll do fine!

thanks guys... but i am still really upset. I really do not think I can fix this problem...

I was too upset to go into details last night, but will try and explain what happened.

I was had to do some modification to the tv in order to get it to fit in the dash, IE - cutting the TV's plastic frame. nothing was dammaged. but, I had to take the tv apart, and there were a couple of the papre thin ribbon cables in the tv that i had to remove. well, me being stupid, i just wiggled the cable out... not knowing there is a clip to undo to remove to get the ribbon out. sure enough, the clip broke, now the ribbon will not stay in place.

so, i figure, hey, no biggie, I'll just tape it in place. wrong. *BTW, i am doing all this testing in my house with the ac adapter, not in my car* so now i have the tv apart, and i am holding the ribbon in place firmly with my finger. i plug it in, nothing. only other thing i can think of is when i messed up the IR sersor for the Remote control.... but that is only a device... it shouldn't have to complete a circuit.

I don't know what to do... I am at my wit's end... quite frankly, I dont even want to do this freaking project anymore. i hate myself for messing something up that was so easy, and for literaly throwing away $300. only God himself will be able to get this tv working... and i pray that he does.

yay! $3! come on guys... you can get me up to $300!!

Paypay addy if anyone is really serious of donating to a new tv...

If you get desperate enough, let me take a look at that TV, Chris. I'm no genius, but I do have many years of electronics school under my belt. Just a though...no promises.

This is how you fix it. Open the back of the case. Insert an M-80 and stick the fuse out a bit so that it's accessible. Close the case. Light the fuse and run. Shortly thereafter, you'll hear an explosion. Your TV should then work like new.

sorry, iunno anything about your tv problem, but where did you get your spray paint? i want a factory match as well and i think its better spending $40 for paint than 100 for gxe trim.

Well, here are a few pictures of the two units installed... I think it came out pretty good. and before anyone says anything, the paint is suppose to match the shifter console, not the vents. also, the gap between the two parts is not a gap. it is a peice of foam tape... i put it there to prevent rattles, and/or paint chips from rubbing.

you can get it at any local paint shops. just bring in a color you want to match, (has to be bigger then 3x3") and they will match it for you.

looks good man - very smooth. the paint match isnt THAT bad at all. dont get the GXE trim with your setup, the bottom of it will not flow into your HU trim.

thanks for the idea on the foam tape, i've got a rattle in my dash and this may be the key to fixing it!
